I really want to get Sealed Sword, mostly for Faust, and I was wondering if I should do so, or upgrade my Calibur. Yes, I know Leviathan is one of the best weapons (it's the jack-of-all-trades), but the Gran Faust deals Curse (yes, I am aware that you can receive it, too), and with Curse, Jelly King will be an easy target. Or should I get the Sealed Sword, and upgrade my Calibur, so I can have two blades to help me?
Upgrade Calibur, Get Sealed Sword Instead, Or Do Both?
Do both, even worse get 2 sealed swords, one for faust but another one for Avenger !!!
Thanks guys. Another reason is because "dragon" Jellies (the jellies with spines/thorns on them) are one of my worst problems right now, mostly because they do quite a lot of damage to me.
Unless you like slow swords, you may do better off with a nightblade than a faust. It will play more similarly to the calibur (medium speed, 3 hit combo) and will do plenty of damage to jellies.
My favorite weapon against jellies, though, is a fire bomb (fiery vaporizer line). It's easy to get them into the haze and the fire does a lot of damage.
I'm actually quite partial to my Shadow Driver for the Jelly Palace levels. It's safe and pretty efficient, and there's only a few places where they don't give you a pile of space to maneuver around them in. My major issues there tend to be Gunpuppies, and maybe Lumbers in some of the more tight spots.
Seriously though, if you're taking a pile of damage from the Jellies, your weapon isn't the problem. The Calibur is a fine sword, particularly the charge attack. Switching it out for a slower sword is probably not going to help you much. Either you need to learn to block more instead of always going for a full combo (in which case the Faust is going to make your issues worse, not better), or you're in desperate need of some piercing defense on your armor. And if we're talking about the actual Jellly Palace levels, you have no business entering the stratum without it, honestly.
I do the Jelly Palace levels with no piercing defense at all just fine. Just keep popping Ash and blast away with your alchemer, or learn to be judicious about finishing sword combos. Pierce defense is nice in the final fight though, as there isn't much space to avoid the pink cubes in the throne room.
As to the OP's original question: Upgrade your Calibur to 4* or better, and then get Sealed Sword. Faust is a bit better than Avenger, but Divine Avenger is lots better than Gran Faust, so usually people go after the DA first. If you want the shadow damage, you can also try the Nightblade, which behaves like a Calibur with a huge bonus to Slimes and Gremlins and a less powerful charge attack.
do both. both swords come in handy at different situations. and yes, faust is handy if you farm jelly king but I will warn you (even with my gran faust) it sparingly curses the enemy, even on charges. it's better to still have vials. the good thing is the shadow bonus against slimes, but the jk itself is not weak to shadow. still a good swords, just avoid using the charge. use it to do more jk runs and get the avenger. use the levi line for normal levels, avenger/da for vanaduke.
