Hi! I just started playing, and I realize that my cobalt set really suck compared to almost every other set in the game lol.
My 3 stars are almost lower than any other set's 2 stars pieces.

Maybe that's just me though.. but well, should I forget the cobalt/azure set and find something else?

I looked at every set stats and it seems like the gunslinger and the drake scale sets with faster gun/sword attacks were the best to me.

As you mentioned, it really

As you mentioned, it really depends on how you would like to play. You can use armor that has bonuses as you listed. Or go with armor that is good versus specific or all types of damage.
I would recommend trying different combinations to see which works best for you.

Yes

Yes I know, but the cobalt set have nothing good compared to others. I understand some people love a specific status resistance or whatever, but this set only has normal resistance, and the other sets often have almost as much normal resist. Maybe that's just me though..

It's also a trade off in how

It's also a trade off in how easy it is to obtain the Cobalt set right up to it's 5-star variant. Unlike many of the most powerful armors that require you to to get your hands dirty in to clockworks to find recipes for the Cobalt family is always for sale in the Haven Bazaar.

Exactly what I thought. This

Exactly what I thought. This is why I was wondering which set should I look for if I wan't to be really good.
Is the gunslinger set and upgrades considered good? I love to gun and run.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think anybody will disagree

Basically, there are three good sets.

Dragon Scale, Chaos and Fallen.

Dragon Scale Set gives an Ultra boost to sword Attack Speed.
Chaos Set gives a High boost to Damage and an Ultra reduction to Charge Time.
And the Fallen Set offers an Ultra boost to Damage as well as maximum Fire Resistance.

Your shield doesn't really matter, the only shields worth using are the ones with max normal resistance.
Plate, Jelly and Defender all eventually get this.

If you want, you can also use trinkets to increase your abilities, but they're not necessary.
All the best trinkets are sold at the Guild Shop, so you'll need to be in a guild to be able to buy them, but there's no doubting how useful they are if you're willing to spend the CE.

Ok... I see.. so the Chaos

Ok... I see.. so the Chaos Set totally owns the Gunslinger which only does Ultra reduction to guns only.. etc

Thanks a lot!

Dragon Scales seems to be

Dragon Scales seems to be really rare, people are selling it at insane prices. I guess it's because this set really is good.

I hate the Fallen set looks lol so I hesitate between the 3* dragon scale set or the 3* chaos set (elemental) for now.

Attack speed vs Damage and reduction time.

You should probably be aware

You should probably be aware however, that the Chaos set has negative status resist for every status effect, making you more vulnerable to things like fire, poison, and stun.

I see.. I think I'll try to

I see.. I think I'll try to get the dragon scales set instead then. It will be fast as hell with my vile striker xD

Might get the Fallen someday and put a costume on, because the Ultra damage bonus probably is amazing.

There's a cap an Attack

There's a cap an Attack Speed, so maybe someone could tell you if making the whole Dragon Scale Set is even necessary if you're using a Vile Striker or Hunting Blade.

Lol you're right.. there is

Lol you're right.. there is probably one, because even with the cobalt set I'm hitting pretty fast. Also, there is an Ultra time charge reduction on it already, so the Chaos set wouldnt be as effective.

I'll try to get the Fallen 4 star one right away if it's one of the best too then, and I'll keep my cobalt as a costume.

Well the Fallen Set is the

Well the Fallen Set is the most popular for a reason, but having a Chaos Cowl and Fallen Armour isn't out of the question.

Some very good weapons, like the Ash of Agni and Blitz Needle, have longer charge times than that of the Cutter Series swords, so you can keep your defence and get some Charge Time Reduction on your weapons.

Also: I may be wrong, but I

Also: I may be wrong, but I thought that the chaos set only provided elemental defense? Almost no monster or attack does this kind of damage, so you'd be totally undefended against the most common form of attack (normal damage) if you wore the chaos set. That, combined with the negative status resistances, would make wearing that armor a somewhat suicidal endeavor.

And shoebox, I've seen a striker with an innate attack speed bonus (high). It wasn't much faster than a normal striker. That would thus be comparable to the performance off a dragon scale set, which, again, lacks normal defense. I'd love to see some damage numbers comparing what damage you take wearing dragon scale vs other armor, because at first glance, it would not be pretty. In all, two of your three set suggestions caught me by surprise.

It's far better to mix and match items from different sets, to avoid doubling down on the weaknesses or limitations of one set. I use a crown of the fallen, heavy demo suit, and volcanic plate shield: I get a good damage bonus, a charge time reduction for my bomb, resistance to 3 forms of attack, and great fire and stun resistance. Since my sword is of the striker series, a speed bonus isn't very useful anyway.

Ok, I see. I prefer having a whole set, but that's just me, maybe I'll try to mix them when I'll change my weapon. I only have The Vile striker and the Needle shot right now.

Once again, being hit is

Once again, being hit is entirely optional.
Since having NO defence to a particular damage type in Tier 3 is pretty much identical to having the maximum defense acheivable, minus like, 3 bars of health, I don't think it actually matters what your defence is as long as you have the offense to back it up.
Also, Shields.

And I did say that there was an Attack Speed Cap, the Dragon Scale Set is really only for 3-Hit and 2-Hit swords, like the Cold Iron Vanquisher or Divine Avenger.

Is the defense gap really

Is the defense gap really that narrow? That's a bit surprising.

Shoebox, I'd really like to see some solid testing with clearly documented numbers to back that up. If so, we can begin to lobby the devs for more reasonable armor balancing, but not until some good solid evidence can be presented.

Well I haven't really tested

Well I haven't really tested it recently, because I stopped playing the game regularly a long time ago.
But feel free to try it out yourself, I remember it being something similar to about 3 or 4 bars extra from full protection to none when I tested it out.

I actually posted a ton of suggestions on how to improve armour around the same time I tested it.

I still think this is dumb..

I still think this is dumb.. I mean, there is only 2 or 3 valuable sets.. the Chaos set is better than the Gunslinger for gunners and for the Demolition series for bombers, I hope they will rebalance that and make these specific weapon armor sets better. Demo suits should have ultra reduction time for bombs and ultra damage for bombs, etc.

Well the Gunslinger set gets

Well the Gunslinger set gets that Ultra Bonus long before the Chaos/Grey Feather sets do.

You have to get both of them to 5-stars to take advantage of the universal Charge Time bonus.
But the Gunslinger Set gives you that bonus straight away, but only for Guns.

Yeah..but the gunslinger at

Yeah..but the gunslinger at 5* is useless.. so why bother. It's still supposed to be THE gunner set. Same for demo suit. Chaos could have a medium/high reduction time for all, but it shouldnt be ultra for all weapons + high damage. Anyway.. it's just my opinion.
