I've been reading a lot of posts of players complaining about the energy system and suggesting that there be a fixed price. This is not the answer. If the price was fixed at say, 4k or 3k crowns, you would just complain about that being too pricey as well. The root of the problem is that you don't have enough energy to continue playing. that's why my suggestion is this:
Keep the main focus on delving deeper into the clockworks but allow for those who don't buy CE and even for those who do (Like me) to explore the surface of Cradle. Make 1 - 5 star areas for all different players. Create instanced areas for players to explore on the surface of Cradle that require no energy but still allow you to collect crowns and maybe a few materials. This will at least allow players to continue having fun while earning enough crowns to buy the CE required to go into the clockworks.

Really my suggestion is to make something else for players to do that doesn't require energy to keep them interested in the game. Open up a PvP arena for all I care. Let them kill each other and they will come back for more.

I realize this is much easier said than done but I'm going to keep donating and maybe my suggestion will become (virtual) reality.

You know what would be even more fun? Make the surface a persistent world with fully enabled PvP where players can go kill each other as much as they want and when a player dies they drop all the crowns and heat they accumulated since the last time they have been in haven. People might complain that players would just farm on the surface rather than in dungeons but the players who would dominate here would be end game players who don't buy CE anyways. Newer players would have extra incentive to buy CE and quickly work their way up to take revenge on the experienced player who killed them before.

There ya go.

yeah, anything would be cool. Its up to OOO what they do but there needs to be something that doesnt cost energy to do. If i didn't have a job and I was not willing to donate I would have quit a while ago.

Have to say, but I think pvp will fail with the current combat system. It's not suitable for that...

wtf are you talking about? the combat system would be perfect for PvP. Maybe needs a few tweaks here and there but otherwise it would be awesome. If you know how to attack and block correctly, combat gets a lot more strategy added to it. Pit two knights that know what they are doing together and that would be an Entertaining fight.

I like the idea of exploring

I like the idea of exploring Cradle, but I'd rather do it to see beautiful place and train with different monster than earning crowns. Probably because if it makes crowns, we will never see that in game... :p

Definitely. at the time that i first started this post I was a little heated from people arguing about the CE system. All I really want to see are other activities besides exploring the clockworks. Something that didn't cost energy so those who were low could continue playing the game.

My ideas

The reason I joined the forum was because I had a similar idea.

From what the story tells us, we are trying to get to the core to restore Energy to our ship, the Skylark. It isn't too far fetched that the Spiral knights might make a different city to try and enter the clockworks from a different location.

We also know that the clockworks were built by the Gremlins, it wasn't their idea, but they were the manual labor that made it. So why wouldn't they also have a surface entrances/exits to the clockworks. Surely they must come up from the depths sometimes.

My Suggestions are:

>In order to get from one city to another, you must travel on the surface. The first level looks awesome so why not add more like it?
>The surface is made up of entirely of beast monsters, and very few constructs.
>The surface doesn't require energy to navigate.
>Secret entrances to the Clockworks are hidden on the surface that allow unique paths to the core. They cost more Energy but are also more rewarding(This makes up for not paying for the surface).

And here's a simple illustration of what I mean.

A is Haven
B is a different city with it's own set of gates to the core
and
C is a hidden gate made by the people who were on the planet before the Spiral knights. Possibly the Gremlins.

i love this idea and want it so much!

there could even be trains for people who don't want to traverse the dangerous surface... or just don't want to wast their time, and the trains could cost energy, thus giving 000 more money!

Wow... I love your ideas. that would be perfect. I'm sure that eventually OOO will add surface areas and probably another planet. If you get to the terminal looking over the core there is one last elevator that doesn't work yet. What will happen after we activate the core? When we recharge the skylark, that will open MANY more possibilities. There's no way they can expect us to be delving into the clockworks for the rest of the game. I just can't wait to see what they will do.

Love it but

Love the idea but if you make it free of energy and keep drops people would abuse it so how about this, give the player an option, they can play with full energy consumption and get full drops, half energy consumption and get half valued drops, or for free and get no drops. this means that while people can go out and explore at will they're not limited to the arcade when they want to earn stuff, but to keep the arcades popular make it so that certain materials and stuff can only be found down there. And I like the planet idea, make it so they can board ships and the ships have an estimated time to arrival(like an hour or so). So while they're waiting they can explore the ship and battle people. And expand haven and add new cities. Not all at once of course but we'd wait for it.
