I'll be honest, I love the game to itty bitty bits. I love how I can choose a favorite color and it's applied to everything (or almost everything) except for one thing...

I can't preview the item with the color I chose to see if I'd like the look before crafting it.

Now I know some people don't care at all and they'll just craft away strong stuff depending on where they're going, what they're fighting etcetera. And I will do the same eventually -- because let's face it: better go to a boss with equipment that puts you at an advantage instead of a disadvantage.

But I also like to pick stuff on how it looks, I want my Knight to look GREAT. Maybe that's just the dual XX chromosomes in me speaking or whatever, but I think it would be splendid if a preview option -- whether in-game or in the Official Wiki itself) was provided for us people that want to aesthetically look great and stylish.

Or maybe add a repertoire of photos depicting items in each and every personal color available in the Official Wiki so people can just refer to that and get a good look. Still, a "Dream Knight Maker" would be even more awesome if it'd let you pick any item and smack it on to this fictional knight along with your favorite color so you could see how everything would look together and stuff. <3

Look, I even already named it -- I'm becoming attached to this suggestion already. D:

P.S.: Awesome game OOO, I already love it to bits and caved and bought some CE with real life money -- both to play more as well as to support you guys. Dang, I'll definitely need a job now with this jewel of an MMO.

This wouldn't be done by OOO

As much as I love this idea (I'm XY and still work hard to get good costume equips) it would kinda be a waste for OOO to impliment this. However if this game acts like any other then it is highly possible that a player could rip certain code aspects from the game and create a (hopefully sanctioned by OOO) seperate program that could be put on the wiki or somewhere else that would give you full access to everything from color, equips, and show you the stats.

Well, they could use their Admin powers to simply get every item in every color on them and take a snap shot and upload that to the Official Wiki if the Dream Maker can't be done. Takes some time, but not too much effort.

Or do something like the intro when you're making your Knight for the first time. A system just like that -- but out of the game (or maybe in? of course you'd get none of those items you're imaginary-ly trying on -- gotta work hard to get them yourself :D) -- that serves as a preview of everything available in any color you favor. ^^

I think it's do-able, and I don't think it requires that much work (half the code or more is probably there already -- you just need to modify it into something new) and it'd be a great addition.

That is true but the problem is most people don't see this as an issue, therefore OOO will ignore it till there is nothing left to fix. But one way or the other I doubt it would be in game. It would probably be placed on the wiki. They could expand it a bit by making it so that while it rotates through the armor or helm and such it shows each individual pieces stats as well as showing the overall effect achieved with that equipment.

Ah, but Suggestions don't exactly mean they all must be fixes to things already created -- it also means it can be new ideas to make it all even more enjoyable for players without making the game broken.

And this feature would just be sooo cool!!!

But this isn't my first MMO. On almost every one the suggestions page is purely fixes or conveniences. The diffrence with this is that this is more of an extravagance. Something that people want to do that doesn't exactly affect gameplay. That makes it less important to the dev team. We could petition the crap out of this thing and not see it on there till we're done with the game.

Btw off topic, what's your knight name? I'd like to add you as a friend.

And maybe if enough people like the idea and vouch in their favor they could add it? Usually popular demands are met faster than anything else to keep players happy (and paying). ^^

This is a decent enough idea, but probably not something Three Rings are likely to implement. It does sound like an excellent project for someone with a bit of coding knowledge and a few evenings worth of free time, though (alas, neither describes me at the moment). I'll shop this idea around to some people, see if anyone's interested in taking it on.

If I had the coding skills necesary I'd totally tackle it - but I neither have the knowledge nor know people with enough free time to do this. ):

And even though I'd be cool to have one made officially by OOO I suppose you guys may be right and they might not tackle this project. So if any fans want to give it a try I'd be willing to aid out in whatever I can (if anything) to make it possible. ^^

It would be a convenience, but... You could just as easily look at the items on the Spiral Knights Wiki. I feel like my Vog Cub set looks amazing personally and I had planned to get it, but the color changes are so slight in most armors cases that I'm not sure it would be worth implementing a preview option in-game when viewing it on the Wikipedia would be just as easy.

Example: The Jelly Crown will look the same on one character as it would on the other.

But if you're looking to just play dress-up (I mean this in the most respectful way, because I love dressing up my Knight like a little doll too! xD) then I think it WOULD be nifty for a little program to see what me might look like with what equipment.

The problem with the wiki

The images on the wiki only offer set angles and color schemes. We never said that this was some die hard need now thing. But it would be nice to put a Knight together and be able to see what they will look like as well as what their stat's will be.

Like I said, it would be just playing dress up then, but I do think it's a nifty idea to have a sort of 3D viewer for what you want to look like.

Of course, I think they should also add black and white to the colors you can choose as your default color and allow a way to change them, maybe for like payment of 10 energy at a NPC or something like that. :)

Simple.

Flash website.

2 tabs, Helm and Armor.

Use screenshots of a Knight with no shield or weapon facing straight forward, side, and back.

Photoshop colored areas with a palette.

Done.

As it is, most of the wiki images leave very little to the imagination as to what you'll look like...

the developers of this game easily have enough recources!

they could easily make a mini-game were you are a knight and your inventory is FULL of EVERY item imaginable on SK and you are in a neverending dungeon so you can practice and look amazing for free!

... if only they wanted too...

Whoa, nelly!

Now, now, I don't mean make a dungeon to run with your fantasy Knight and all 5 star equipment for free. Nooo, tgat's a big no-no in my book. But a way to play dress up, in a sense, as well as to be able to see what kind of stats your Knight would have with all that would be armor and the like. Maybe make so either all items are level 10 heat - or make the heat level adjustable or something.

And no, the Wiki pallet often confuses me. I took a chance with my Magic Hood, and was pleasantly surprised to see it looked a million times better that what I had imagine, but there are others that are that much harder to figure out - especially when the model Knight has a fave color that the armor already has by default - so you cannot figure out what would and wouldn't change with you personal color.

I don't expect this to be implemented ASAP, I know there are more pressing and dire matters in the table, but I just hope they'll pin this up in the future ideas board of them and consider it eventually. I don't think ir'd be hard to do - they could use the create your Knight at the beginning as a base and just edit from there. It will take time, yes, gor coding - but all the needed items are already there. ^^

If they added an option to imput any UV variant on the items as well to calc with all the end stats it'd be even cooler. :D
But I'd be more than happy with just being able to see what my Knight would look like with everything on. <3
