Some players like to "play" the game by mass crafting and selling in the Auction House. Other players (probably some of the same ones) like to buy and resell high end UVs. They obviously want to get "rich" in this game. My question is this: Once you have 3 characters all with great UVs on their 5 * gear, what's the point of being rich in this game?
What's the point of getting rich?
In mmo's you have the advantage of sometimes choosing what your "game" is.
In Ultima Online there were players who never fought or trained combat skills. They would farm, grow plants, breed animals, decorate houses, design costumes, and buy / sell house lots... They could become VERY rich, with a very fulfilled mmo "life" for their character.
Others liked training 7x combat skills and killing dragons...
The point of an MMO imo is that this diversity is available as a full and satisfying role. This is actually why a lot of ppl quit when bound gear kept the bind after craft, as ppl felt they weren't fulfilled as a crafter without being able to sell the best gear :\
Anyway - in short - "why get rich?" ez - to get rich <_<
the point is to not have 3 lackluster characters with a 5* set for each, it's to have one super awesome character with 3x 5* sets for any situation.
I'll answer it.
Chinese: to sell crowns for real money.
Koreans: to earn best UVs and sell em for real money.
In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women.
Point of getting rich is the ability to buy rarity in my opinion. Personally I only save up money so I can buy what is rare, And I hope to continue to do just that until I've owned every rare drop item there is in this game (unfortunately the only rare item I have acquired so far is a tri-heart pendant, But i plan to hunt or buy a quicksilver set once i can either get a massive pile of money or farm a shock slime arena.)
@inhanzt: Just make sure you don't get addicted to Warp Dust. That's when things start to fall apart.
Glad to see someone else who played the great sandbox game that was Ultima Online.
Games really only continue to be interesting if you set your own goals and strive to achieve them. They could be social (creating a guild), economic (being wealthy), or in my case, I just strive to be awesome in general, which is a combination of of lots of goals, big and small.
Being rich in an MMO gives you more of an advantage, or just generally makes things easier for you, and just the overall ability to have the money to do with it what you please.
The more money you have the easier it is to fund yourself for example.
If you're rich & have nothing to spend it on, you could...
-Give Crowns/Crystal Energy to someone who needs it
-Quit the game & play it at a later time when you're bored
-Do some Contests(Quizzes seem to be popular) in Haven & use Crowns/Crystal Energy as the Prize
-Get all of Weapons, Armors, etc until you have everything
Self esteem.
Some nerdy self esteem of having loads of money.
The point is winning in a game where you can't really win. Some people who play MMOs use money to keep score, and some people are just naturally the type who collect everything possible.
