Video game music is pretty cool.

I like music in video games, since I listen to music quite a lot.

So I'm going to post some game music and soundtracks that stand out.
Mostly from lesser known games.
I use the term lesser known sparingly because I know so many people play games that it's impossible to assume that nobody here has played at least one of these games.

But, here we go!

Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven: Not a game very many people have played, but it has some of the most dedicated fans I have ever met. A lot of the people who played it originally still play it. It definitely exhibited concepts before it's time. Stuff that's really only becoming commonplace now.
One of my personal favourite games, really.
It's about 12 years old now, probably more than that.

Scorcher: This soundtrack was composed by Jesper Kyd, the guy that made the Assassin's Creed and Hitman soundtracks, as well as a number of others.
Very technoey stuff, somehow always manages to find a way onto my playlists. These tracks need a hardcore remix so badly.

Ape Escape 3: These games always had good soundtracks. They also have the best minigames ever. I think if they were marketed more towards the western audiences, Ape Escape could have become a much bigger hit. I used to think everybody had played Ape Escape, but apparently not many people did.

Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune: This song actually appears in the later versions of the game as an attainable bonus soundtrack. This was composed by Yuzo Koshiro, the same guy who made the soundtrack for Streets of Rage. It doesn't even sound like video game music, really, which is why it's so great.

Darkened Skye: A game about skittles (the candy). Very funny game, I recommend it to just about everyone who is interested in games. Strange fact, when Skittles commissioned them to make this game, the only stipulation in the contract was that there were to be no snakes portrayed within the game.

Ridge Racer Type 4: The best Ridge Racer there is. I got a bonus with my copy, since the demo disc with the "upgraded" demo version of Ridge Racer wasn't in the one I bought, I got the original Ridge Racer with it instead. Two games for the price of one.

ReVolt: Racing games are featuring fairly highly on this list. I think it's just because they were so good for multiplayer. But yes, ReVolt is an excellent game. Had the best stunt mode ever. Also an exceptional track maker.
This is better than ModNation Racers, don't even bother buying that terrible game.

KKND: Krossfire: I had this on the Playstation. It's the best console RTS in existence.
Three way multiplayer (2 players and an AI), where you could be a 2v1 co-op team or free for all made for some good times.
Techno fueled my childhood. Not surprising in the slightest, considering the amount of video games with that kind of music existed in the 90s.

Need for Speed: High Stakes: ANOTHER racing game. This had music by real artists as well as stuff composed just for the game. One of the best soundtracks in a game, ever.
The game itself is also fantastic.

I guess I'll wrap up this post for now.
If people like this thread or request more music I'll post more.

Feel free to post your own favourite game music, if you have any.

Unsurprisingly, I find that the games that take the time to make exceptional soundtracks also have exceptional gameplay.

Also, the title is a parody of this song right here, if you were wondering.

Einhänder: Square's first and

Einhänder: Square's first and last 2.5D shooter. It's a great game for the Playstation for anyone who likes shoot-em-ups. It's music is generally upbeat techno tracks.

Wold of Goo: A physics game where you build towards a goal with little balls of goo, need I say more?

A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda: A game that takes pointers from Megaman and Contra. The game is sold as "episodes" and only one episode is out so far. A great game. Easy for anyone to pick up, hard to truly beat everything.

VVVVVV: A great 16-bit styled indie game where your only mechanic is to move the character and flip gravity. Navigate your player though many difficult puzzles. You will die... lots.

Forgot about Einhander. Too

Forgot about Einhander.
Too much Final Fantasy makes me forget about the other games Square and Enix had made in the past.

No More Heroes - Severly underrated game for the Wii. Though yes it is gory and very actiony, it's very fun and hilarious. Plus the music is epic.

Bah. BAH, I say. This list is

Bah. BAH, I say. This list is far too incomplete. Props to the Einhander inclusion at least, though.

Iji - Platformer game in a visual style reminiscient of rotoscoping classics like Out of This World and Flashback, which deconstructs the one-person-army motif. The music is also plenty awesome. *hums Tor's theme* You should get it right now while I have your attention.

Ikaruga - An awesome vertical scrolling shoot-'em-up by Treasure with a nice polarity theme and lots of spiritual overtones going to it. It's getting a release on XBox Live Arcade for those interested, but otherwise you've either gotta have a Gamecube or a japanese Dreamcast (or other things, but I'm not about to talk about those)

Front Mission: Gun Hazard - Never heard of this? Not surprised! It was a gaiden game for the Front Mission series back when there was still just Front Mission 1. It's a mech run-and-gun with various RPG elements and (of course) wanzer upgrading, and it was never released in the US. Aeon Genesis has released a fan translation patch for it, though; for those of you who play classic games - y'know - THAT way. <_< >_> *whistles innocently*

Hmm... I think I'll skip a recommendation for Touhou, though, cuz' it's already a memetic world-devouring eldritch beast. `-`a I'm sure you guys are sick of it.

Oh noes! How could I overlook this one?

Jet Moto: Hoverbike racing from the Playstation. Grappling hook turns and turbo boosts. The don't make racers like that anymore. If this music sounds simiar to Twisted Metal it's because it was made by the same studio!

@Shoebox:
I have the Scorcher disk sitting upstairs. XD I used to love playing that game. I was horrendous at it though...

@Not_Shiro:
<3 for Iji. God I love that game and its music so much! Wish there were more like it. (Come on, give us some classic 2D Metroid once in awhile Nintendo!)

And although this series isn't unheard of, it has some of my most favorite video game music - Donkey Kong Country! :)

These are a few that are most well known and my favorites (pretty mellow though!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAPpVplHiDE - Aquatic Ambience
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73n7HTcmb5g - Stickerbush Symphony

Ironically the most difficult levels had the best music, so it wasn't that bad repeatedly losing because I got to hear some decent chiptunes.

I got my Donkey Kong Land with a special edition gold Gameboy Pocket.

Although it ended up breaking some time later at the hands of my arch nemesis, that kid next door that steals things or breaks them.
I still kept the back cover on it and put that on my new Gameboy Pocket.

Ridge Racer does indeed do a good job. Initial D also don't disappoint either, both of the op for omega boost fits pretty well for the game Feeder-Shade + Cast-Dreamer.

Can't forget tracks from rhythm games now.

Also:

Katamari Damacy: Roll stuff up and the King of the Cosmos makes starts out of it. A trippy fringe game for the Playstation 2. I've been amde understanf taht even after translation the words in the music are still nonsensical.

Woah, just saw my crazy typing... It's been THON weekend here over at PSU. Sleep over the past 48hours has been limited to short naps. That plus a quick celebration drink with friends and looks like I had a short circuit in the brain.

I should edit that post, but I think my mental state at the time (evident by the typing) really captures what some of Katamari is.

Not vidya, but the whole

Not vidya, but the whole album is good. Right Stuff just has the right stuff.

Epic FF13 theme remix. Nhato is Japanese for Jesus. So you know this song can cure blindness and clone fish.

I thought this was different, but also cool. Everyone who has ever played a Final Fantasy will recognize this one.

Phantasy Star Universe was pretty random. That's all I have to say about it. Couldn't decide if it wanted to be srs bzns or fanservice. It's also where dogrock goes to school.

Obligatory. Admittedly, I played Guile in Street Fighter before his theme became a fad. Or maybe it was always a fad. I don't know.

I'll stop now.

These guys aren't vidya.
But the songs they make are hilarious.
They're not for kids, but I don't think a kid would understand anything besides the occasional swear word anyway.
Not that there are any on these forums.

Except me, 'cause I'm 12.
