When would you ever want the Treasure Vault over the Graveyard? Graveyard gives a lot more crowns/heat for a run than TV which only sports a lot of the minerals.
Treasure Vault
Vault: Low risk, low reward
Graveyard: High risk, high reward
Thaaaat's pretty much it. If you're at dangerously low health, you might prefer the Vault over the Graveyard because a Vault is extremely unlikely to finish you off.
I believe Treasure Vaults should be made more rewarding.
Treasure Vault seems like it's supposed to be rewarding, what with the name and all, ''Fortune smiles on the greedy''. It's a random reward level, you only have a chance of landing on it, so it should be:
Vault: Low risk, high reward
Graveyard: Higher risk, high reward.
Random levels aren't ones you can just say, ''Hey, I'm pretty beaten up, I think I'll wait till I get the Treasure Vault then.'', because you can't tell which level you'll get. Both ends should be rewarding, just the difference is one is more dangerous. A lot of times a Treasure Vault isn't even as rewarding as a normal level, and there's something wrong with that. If it stays that way it may as well be called, ''Treasure Vault: Sorry, it was robbed before you got here, there's barely anything left, but enjoy the little bit of trinkets you might find!''
Treasure vaults give a high crown/minute ratio, but a low crown/CE ratio and a terrible heat/CE ratio.
Others have mentioned the reasons why I sometimes would rather have a TV than a GY, especially before the last monster nerf when running with large parties on T3.
Vaults also have much better token to CE ratio than most levels- useful tokens like Grim and Forge Sparks, regardless of strata setting.
Only case might be : you're with a group of newbies that you're helping, and because of that you already are all at a very low health level, and then you suddenly start wishing you won't have to explain (i.e. handle on your own) a graveyard *right now*
When I'm looking for Sparks I'll take a Vault over a Graveyard any day.
Heat and crowns on most days, and in the past I've found a total 2 forges, 1 grim and 8 primals in one vault, sounds better then death to me.
Two things really bug me about the vault. One is the line "Fortune smiles on the greedy." Most of the people I play with curse when we get a vault. It doesn't sound like many folks feel that fortune is smiling on them. I think I'd feel better if the loading screen said, "Treasure Vault - Hey, at least you're not gonna die in that Graveyard over there." The other thing that bugs me is the sheer amount of crystals/minerals in the vault that I can't bring with me. I counted them on a solo run the other day - 28 chunks! I know, I know, the vault boasts low risk, high crown-time ratio, high potential for token drops and better chance for all four in a party to get big mineral chunks... but I could have made a giant statue in homage to Basil for my guild hall with those 28 mineral chunks if only I could have taken them all.
I think it would be cool if treasure vaults offered something unique.
Maybe if a tv cost zero energy - so it would be 100% profit?
Even if another level could have given more cr / heat, the tv being FREE would be a bonus.
Vaults suck until you get to T3, when the choice is between a vault and a graveyard. There aren't many people that can handle a 4 person T3 graveyard, which is why most people just run through killing the bare necessity. Even doing a T3 graveyard solo is a giant PITA that takes way too long,
Sometimes a decent amount of good tokens will easily be worth over 1k in terms of sellable mats. And you finish the level quickly to actually go into the second-part of a tier where the actual heat and crowns are.
It depends on your team. Treasure vaults are bad if you are in a good team because you can get more crowns and heat by clearing out the graveyard. Treasure vaults are better in less-organized teams because you will get more heat and crowns in a treasure vault then you will fleeing though the graveyard.
Also, a tip for clearing out graveyards. if you are in a 4 player group, you can have one person stay back and kite the reapers and have the rest of the team clear out the graveyard. I've done this in the T1 and T2 graveyards... not sure if it's possible to do it in the T3 graveyards.
It's much easier to deal with. If you're just doing a run to Basil for a recipe, it's much less hassling than a Graveyard.
