I understand the reasons you can't allow equipped weapons to be sold or traded, but I'd like to see a system which implements SOME kind of utility for weapons which have been bound, but which aren't being used (or CAN'T be used) down a crafting path -- or at the very least gives me some kind of tiny compensation, while getting rid of them. Maybe a vendor that eats them, and gives you back some miniscule fraction of their heat? Or tokens? Or even a paltry amount of crowns?

Nope, they will give you more if you sell 3~5 stars materials or gears (just don't expect to be a millionaire knight with this).
Obviously, 0~1 star items have ridiculous prices.
Also, selling gears prices (any star) > selling material prices (any star), keep that in mind.

Only weapons bought in the Rescue Camp give 1 crown, everything else should give you back more. You can test by trying to sell one of your newer weapons, just be sure to Cancel ! D:
Well, in fact, you can sell your bound weapons for crowns at any NPC stores.
