I've downloaded the game, rather than playing on the browser. When i try to log in, i get "A server error caused authentication to fail."
Any help would be great.

Maybe your firewall or something is blocking what SK needs to be able to reach. Try the things listed in http://forums.spiralknights.com/node/48 (scroll down, there is a firewall step).

I assume you mean the file named "projectx", since it's the only one to even mention log files.

Looking in mine I see:
Looking in mine I see: launcher.log, projectx.log and old-projectx.log all with dates from my last using of Spiral Knights. Possibly the additional files would be good to email if you have them in your directory too.

Oh i see now. The file type
Oh i see now. The file type is named differently on my computer, instead of .log, it's Text Document which opens up Notepad.

projectx.log is usually the
projectx.log is usually the most instance of the client.
old_projectx.log is one instance past of the current log.
launcher.log is the most recent instance of the Java Virtual Machine.

I can't currently log on, I get a message saying that the control files could not be downloaded. I can not connected to spiralknights.com on the appropriate port from multiple different internet connections.

Well I'm back in, it looks
Well I'm back in, it looks like game.spiralknights.com IP changed from 184.73.192.155 to 184.73.214.58 while I was testing and I could connect to the .58 IP - a little weird.
Using the non-web one I seem to be able to login just fine, have you tried again?
