i just went to a gate to go down into a dungeon, went in with the 'join party' button -- 10 energy

yay! i join a party already in the dungeon -- but they are already at the gate to the next level -- 10 more energy to follow them

that next level happened to be the terminal, so i spent my last 20 energy to do nothing :( that wasn't fun

since there were no monsters and the only collectibles were some hearts, a piddly 8 crowns, and a meager 8 small heat globs, what's the rationale for having it cost the same amount of energy to travel through the terminal as it does to travel through a proper dungeon level with a goodly amount of crowns and materials?

perhaps the lift to OR from (not both) the terminal shouldn't cost anything?

*edit: whoops i guess this shoulda gone in the suggestions part, soz

This is why I always make

This is why I always make sure to uncheck 'In Progress' when I'm joining a party. That way I end up with a party that's still safely in the lobby.

But yeah, fine-tuning which elevators cost energy where would be a good idea. I've also been noticing complaints about it costing energy to just go into the lobby too, which I'm thinking could be solved without as many squatter problems (as compared to previous ideas to solve that), while it still checked your available funds before you went into the lobby, they wouldn't actually be spent until going into the dungeon proper.

Yeah

Same happened to me. Join party, take lift, end of dungeon. 20 Energy wasted.

That's why I insist gates should show you the current parties in the dungeon and let you join them at will depending on where they are.

It's not my party, but I'll solo if I don't want to?

The current lobby interface is definitely confusing. For the flip side of the same coin: if I uncheck "solo" and "parties in lobby", I'd expect to only join a party that is actually ongoing. (good for exploring deeper levels that require teamwork)

But if there are no parties, the game ignores my options, and without asking, starts me in... a solo party in the lobby. 10 energy just to find out whether my options are possible.

(Or put another way, "hey! This game is cool- please make sure we can meet fun people and have fun!")

it seems like the MOST

it seems like the MOST beneficial solution for the PLAYER would be (while still retaining the core cash->energy->playtime flow):
+ no energy to travel to to terminals -- since there's no real content on terminal floors, having to pay to visit them seems like a waste of energy
+ no energy to leave a dungeon floor you joined an existing party at -- a very lucky player could fall into a party that just stepped OFF the lift, effectively gaining a free trip through one level of the dungeon, but is there any actual potential for willful abuse

if it's the way it is now cos of purposeful decisions, these put something like $0.03 or so into ooo's coffers each time they happen if the player is running on bought energy but gives the player negligible enjoyable gameplay for their cash (or X hours of waiting for mist energy), not cool

You don't pay energy to go to terminals, it's free. It's always been that way. I don't know where you're coming from. In addition, it does not cost energy to go to the mission lobby, nor will it automatically start a new party unless you chose that at one point and clicked the "Do not ask again" check box.
