There are a number of swords that have a ranged attack to it, either normally or only when charged, like the Barble Snarb or the Arc Razor. Are there any good 5* swords with a ranged attack to it? (If not, what about 4*?)

DA is proberly the best of them all 3 reqular size charge from and avanger
GF a risky charge that can curse and curse yourself size is bigger
Glacius the freeze is good keep them in place expioson are 2-3 like all brandish 5*
winmillion is the worst period though it have some uses hiting switch with reqular attack is only up

The brandish line has some
The brandish line has some problems if being used as a ranged weapon. The explosions cannot span gaps or go over low obstacles, so it cannot hit things a gun generally can like those annoying out-of-reach switches. Also the number of explosions is random from 1-3, typically 2 so the range is quite inconsistent.

I've only seen Divine Avenger
I've only seen Divine Avenger and Gran Faust from YouTube vids: do their ranged attacks actually travel over the ground and thus be unable to be used as ranged weapons like the Brandish line?

No, they will cross gaps since they are flying through the air rather than traveling through the ground. One odd aspect though, the projectiles start slightly behind you so if you have your back against a wall and do a charge attack, the projectiles from DA/GF hit the wall and stop right there.

How about Barbarous Thorn
How about Barbarous Thorn Blade? Does it gain extra qualities at *5, I heard it summons Snarbolax but that's about it.

I own a Faust and a 5* Thorn
I own a Faust and a 5* Thorn blade and both can be used as ranged weapons to an extent. The Faust projectile goes about as far as an alchemer round before exploding and can travel through the air; the Thorn Blade has a much shorter range but still enough to hit enemies from a safe distance. (Though it is much better done point-blank against a group to get the full damage out, as it fires a 45 degree arc of thorns.)
The 5* Thorn Blade does summon a holographic Snarbolax that seems to simply extend the range at which your sword stroke hits, allowing you to hit more enemies from marginally further away, which is nice.
I'd recommend either a Faust or Avenger if you're looking for a sword with any ranged capability as they have arguably the best.

Snarble barb is also ranged. Don't forget them.
The faust has a higher damage rate then the DA honestly. You just need the right armor + trinkets to cancel out the curse effect. However, NEVER use the Faust or GF if you only have 2 weps. It usually curses 2 weps and almost all your vials. It would be dumb to do so.

Does the snarble barbs
Does the snarble barbs projectile range increase at 5*? The 2* version seems very short, about 2/3rds the reach of a DA projectile. It's even shorter than the 3rd explosion off a brandish line. If so, about what kind of range does it have?
Also a nice thing about the brandish explosions (except the ice line) is that the explosions can juggle the enemy. I've got an acheron with V high + med from shield vs gremlins and if I juggle them with all 3 hits I can typically 1 shot them with a charge when solo all the way down to D28.
