I'm relatively new to Spiral Knights and have only gotten through tier 2, building up to tier 3. I currently have a Cutter with damage bonus to undead: medium, and was wondering if the Spur line with Attack Speed Increase: Very High is a relatively good UV to have, as I have just crafted it. Or would I be better off putting it up on the auction house for a good amount?
Is Spur with ASI: Very High good?
Ahh, thanks for reminding me about that! I completely forgot XD Maybe I'll just try to trade it away.
Stay away from the spur line like the plague imo, the Winmillion (4* end of line) has tons of issues due to the projectiles it fires on swing (dodging enemies dodge your melee, infuriating). I'd sell that bad boy, someone will be it for extreme amounts of CE.
Spur is already quite fast so a ASI is not that useful. And plus, it only upgrades to a 4* sword which like Patchumz said, has a lot of issues.
I enjoy playing with my Winmillion, and I've taken it to the core, so while it's not the best in tier 3, it's not unusable, either. At the 2* level (i.e. compared to other 2* swords), the spur is great.
You'll want a 5* sword eventually, so the spur line won't be your main weapon down the road, but if you have the materials and CE to spare, you can certainly enjoy playing with it.
Attack speed increase is useful on the spur (it's not cutter fast), but if I were you I'd sell the sword. That kind of UV can command a pretty penny.

just a funny post i found once xD
but jokes aside
i personally disliked winmillion
the dmg is very low, the charge attack is horrible, i sold that weapon at the same day, when i crafted it
u should sell the UV to get some good money for now
the basic rule is: sell best uvs without hesitating(at an appropriate price) unless u had planned on using them beforehand
you'll never know if it would actually gain a 5* version in the future (heck even more than one path)
same goes for the troika line...
when a 5* does come, expect that that weapon of yours would be a rarity
I know all the quirks and qualms people have with the Winmillion, but I'm currently using an Arc Razor and loving it, as it has none of the issues of Winmillion's ranged attack. Spurs are if you want a high-speed sword that gives you great mobility without getting stuck in wild, endless combos that cutter users often find themselves in (usually ending up stuck in thorns or on top of spikes). People would die for your kind of UV on just about any sword, and especially the Spur series, where no one uses the charge attack and normal damage makes it a moot point to get bonus damage against any form of creature. I say keep it, boost it up to at least Arc Razor level, and see if a fix for the Winmillion comes. They've already fixed up some of the problems people have been having with guns, so I'm hopeful for their attention to turn to the poor Spur series before long. If you find a need for a 4* weapon, see if you like the Winmillion, and if not, go for the Calibur series for normal damage or Brandish line for elemental/shadow. Slower to be sure, but a temporary fix until something else comes out.
Flamdrenite brings up a good point. BTW if the sword is fast enough then I can see it being very effective against certain enemies. And you never know at all if they'll fix up the series to give it a 5* that doesn't have a terrible charge attack and doesn't shoot projectiles. I haven't reached tier 3 yet but so far the projectiles aren't a problem at all for me. Those mecha knights always put up their shields when they see it coming which gives me more time to focus on a single enemy, so I don't have to worry about another knight coming in and hitting me. Alpha Wolvers are SAD! I can literally just slash one over and over again and it won't hit me. Devilites are simple too since they can either dodge or attack, not do both. Again this is for tier 2 so the Alpha Wolvers may not be so sad in tier 3
It's not fast enough, faster than a standard 3 strike, but not as fast as a 5 strike or pierce. It's the middle ground, black sheep.
As with every other weapon, it comes down to your play style more than anything else. There are highly effective ways to take advantage of enemies' reactions to the projectile:
• Against t3 Wolvers, set a bomb (I use a Fiery Atomizer, soon to be Ash) on yourself and slash. They'll jump behind you and get caught in the blast, usually several at a time. Rinse, repeat. If you're patient and wait for them to bark, you can hit them with impunity.
• Against Devilites, do the same thing, but set the bomb somewhere you think they'll dodge instead of right over you.
• Against Gremlins, get them to face you directly and then start attacking. Since they dodge straight backwards, they jump right into a corner where you can cut them to pieces, and since they're dodging all the time, you're not taking any damage.
• Against Mecha Knights, attack to bait their shield. Frequently they will shock themselves immediately after their shield comes down, so use the opportunity to hack away.
The point of all that is that while the enemies are busy dodging/shielding your shots, they aren't attacking you, so you end up taking less damage if you behave correctly. I'm a very patient, conservative, defensive player by nature, so this suits me very well, but it may not suit you. Think about what will make you happy when playing the game and do that, because there isn't a correct choice.
Also, that's a lovely UV, and I wish I had it for my weapon! :D
I've never used a Spur so I can't comment, however ASI and CTR very high are the most desirable UV's.
The main problem with the Spur line of swords, is that it can't go 5 star, and therefore will deal reduced damage in depth 24 and below.
