Half an hour to solo Vana? Jeez, what an endurance battle. O_O
First off, OOO needs to nerf Rits.
Secondly, I want to offer my congratulations to Rits/sawa0122. That was an incredibly impressive effort. Kudos.

Not an easy thing to do, but I will add that the Fire Resist to shield (Volc Plate) makes a world of difference. I do regular solos, and I made the mistake of doing one with a Dread Skelly Shield on that I was leveling up. It was a massive headache how often it ruptured and set me on fire on some of the less avoidable fire stuff. Like if he charges off screen and an orb glances you in the last phase. It has the potential of breaking the shield and igniting you. :/
I've done it with all sorts of sets, and with no deaths solo, but I do gear for the fight. I'm not really interested seeing how hard I can make it. Because that would have to be with proto gear fighting him for 2 straight days or something. =D I'm happy with where I'm at.
But anyway, those extremes aside, in my solo experience it seems like a shield without Fire Resistance is the most significant single item handicap you can give yourself in this fight. If you're looking to challenge yourself further I'd give that a whirl.
I'm not impressed until you beat duke IN proto gear, WITHOUT vitapods, health caps or remedies, WITH a full team that suicides before the fight starts, WHILE holding your breath, ENTIRELY covered in peanut butter, AND alternating hands on every mouse click.
I'd have completed the feat myself, by now, if I could afford that much peanut butter.
