This game to me already has an "arcade" feel to it. Like pay to progress, hack and slash, elevators down. We all have flashsbacks of Gauntlet etc. What I would like to suggest is adding a scoreboard to the game.
The scoreboard could add up damage dealt and taken by each player in the overall run or the current floor. Players can opt to have it turned on or off. It can be relevant when the players want it to be or not. It can also be a tool to measure if a player is pulling their weight or is suicidal and whatnot when it isn't readily apparent that they are (granted it isn't difficult to tell if something isn't pulling their weight... :/ )
It could be a race to see who can find and damage the most while sustaining the least amount of damage. Of course healing monsters can juke the numbers a bit, that would be a minor flaw in an otherwise potentially glorious tool.
Players familiar with World of Warcraft will probably remember the addons Recount and the like.
Those meters did a fairly good job at measuring how well certain party members were pulling their weight or whether or not their current gear, skill configurations were working to their advantage or not.
Having numbers show up when you strike a foe is good of course but having a scoreboard would open up some possibilities...even though it might invite some degenerate play or behavior, it can also encourage excellence among players who want to strive for the highest numbers, while taking the lowest amount of damage.
What do you guys think?
Reminds me of those "dmg meters" from WOW a lot.
I don't know. While it could be interesting just for the interest's sake, I'm not sure if it would actualy do any good.
Players would compete who has bigger damage and it's realy not much of a team-play.
Imagine this:
Player A would have lot of dmg because he's just waving his sword like crazy, putting the entire party in dager.
Player B would have the least dmg done, because he is playing wise, saving player A's @$$.
Now player A would say: "Player B is such a noob, kick him, he is not helping us because he can't do dmg!"
See my point? :)
