Shivermist, it excels in crowd control.
Takes the danger out of many situations by keeping enemies in their tracks.
Anywhere but in fire levels: ash.
Great aggro, gives you instant control over most of the mobs in the room, lets you steer them around so your team can relatively easy pick out whatever they want to slay first. Does damage for you while you're busy pushing mobs around, doing "puzzle" stuff or playing as a gunslinger. Can greatly reduce the time the team spends in a room and the hp they loose - particularly dangerous groups of mobs can often be left to burn if the team is low on hp. In some rooms, if you solve the "puzzles" with an ash, the mobs solve themselves while you're running around.
Shivermist is pretty much useless in most levels (or worse: annoying / in some situations dangerous) with a good team. It's sort of neat to have around in some lvls (p.e. fsc) if you rather play lazy / slow, but it doesn't really give you that much of an advantage most of the time. It's best used to get in a good first strike / charge attack in some lvls (devilites), but I'm not sure if this is still that much of an advantage for players that have a lower ping than I usually have.
Shivermist buster
Solo any map with this bomb, except for the ice elemental map, which are pretty much unusual by the way. Since I have it, I can easily solo without dying the firestorm citadel levels. It can even be helpful against Vanaduke.
Its radius is huge, its blasts lasts long, and so does the freeze effect it causes.
ok... APART from shiver and haze bomb series...
i do love my blast bomb. trying to find a lumbers to get mats for the 5* version, nitrome. in arenas, when surrounded by peeps, a well placed blast bomb can clear the way and let you keep circling.
i also finally finished leveling my graviton bomb, and i guess the extra range on the vortex will make all the difference in awesomeness.
Shivermist.
Then Ash of Agni.
Then a tie between Nitronome and Dark Briar Barrage.
My top 3: 1. Shivermist buster.
2. Ash of agni.
3. Nitronome.
Shivermist has become a must have / overused for sure.
Many people are saying shivermist, and that's great in a group.
But if you want to go solo, I'd say Ash of Agni and Nitronome are the best.

I love my fire bombs, myself - haven't crafted the Agni yet but it's in the future. When I can bop through a graveyard or a danger room and burn all the bad guys to the ground.. yeah, that makes me happy.
If I'm playing in a party, my Freezing Atomizer's great for giving my party members easy targets, mind you. (Got to craft that up one day too...)
Shivermist. If you have a party who already has a Shiver, Grav. Vortex. Lucky for me I have both.

Not BAB when soloing. Or ISB at that matter.
Other than the SUPPORT Bombs, I like my Blast bomb & I'm thinking of upgrading it to an Irontech destroyer. Has Great Damage, high knockback, but at the cost of a small radius. Nevertheless, I still like it. I recommend Blast Bomb Series if you want a basic weapon, like Calibur, Cutter, Blaster, etc.
If you want to deal Statuses, then the Haze bomb Series is recommended. Ash for Damage & Shivermist for Immobilizing. Many don't use Veiler, don't know why.
If Irontech, Nitronome, & Graviton ain't your style, & you're looking for that "Boom," then the Big Angry Bomb is there, dealing immense damage at the cost of a slow Charge Time.(Shouldn't be a problem if you have the entire Mad Bomber Set, like a mad man.)

--Big Angry Bomb for HUGE Damage & Moderate damage; Low Charge
--Graviton if you want to Suck up those Mobs & do a bit of Damage; Light Damage &
Moderate Radius; Fast Charge
Stay away from Deconstructor line, as it only goes up to 3*, unless you want it for the new boss...er..."Boss-es."
Haze Bomb Series if you just want to cause Monsters some trouble
--Ash for Igniting & Damaging them quite a lot
--Shivermist for Freezing & either escaping or unleash a Charge Attack
--Veiler, uh...Um...Oh, Poison them, causing them damage AND prevent enemies from healing them, instead hurting them with Heal Abilities.
That's all I know. I'm not a Professional Bomber, but I've done my time on the Wiki. :P
^ I would disagree Nitronome for Moderate damage and Big Angry for Huge. You can drop Nitronome's so much faster and the range is so much better that the DPS beats BAB by a country mile, despite the better base damage on the BAB.
There's a reason Nitronome is widely recognised to be better. People only get big angrys or irontechs to be all hip and different, not because there is any solid argument for them being better bombs.
Anyway, I would say the Blast Bomb or Dark Thorn lines are better then any haze bomb at 2* or 3*, because it is generally accepted that you need to get the haze line bombs to at least 4* before they start pulling their weight. Otherwise, the Shivermist is the most popular bomb for a reason, and I think will continue to be so even after the nerf.
I think each bomb has their own use..I like them all.
It depends on the situation. I own a venom veiler.. and I like it a lot. All it does it helps your party lol.
Poison does the following:
- Lower monsters attack power (so if someone takes dmg, its less than what they would have normally been hit for. So thats less deaths!)
- Lowers monsters def: So you and your party hit for more dmg
- Prevents healing: this also causes menders and other healers to dmg the thing they are healing.
A great combo is having someone use an Ash bomb while someone else uses a Venom veiler. Fire/poison is nice :) and they stack.
