Well, I wanted to use bombs, because that seems cool, but for being the same star level as others, it seems to suck. Compared to the autogun, the blast bomb seems useless. Is it just because the blast bomb is a weak bomb, or are guns stonger than bombs?
How are bombs good?
Haze Bombs are cheap to craft as well, meaning if you spend your time and energy crafting them en masse, you'll be able to get some excellent unique variants for later.
bombs are the beeeeeessssst. i dont care what anyone else says, but i reckon the blast series is the best.
So i guess that haze bombs are good. Does the haze bomb do damage, or only the fire status effect?
It does damage in the initial blast, but it's fire cloud is the reason most people use it.
You have to upgrade the Haze Bomb to a Fiery Vaporizer before it has the fire effect, though.
I'd contend that the Freezing Vaporizer and Shivermist Buster are unparalleled for crowd control. Having somebody run around dropping those in a tightly-constrained battle event can make things MUCH more manageable.
Now that Shock does area-of-effect damage as well as the spasm effect, it might be a good middle ground between the Fire and Freeze bombs, for doing both crowd control and damage output.
Autoguns are useless now btw. They only fire one volley and then reload. That means you have to stand for ~5 seconds before you can move... all while the monster you didn't kill with one volley destroys you in two hits.
Wait Cory - There are Shock bombs? I haven't seen any yet. ;O
But if they are coming... oh man!
Yeah.
Pretty sure it's a variant of the Graviton Bomb, there's another skin in the folder for that bomb with elec something in the name.
Also, I used a mixture of both the Graviton Bomb and the Freezing Vaporizer in the last preview.
It's a good combination when you get the timing right.
You'd need another player to pull it off, though.
Pardon! My brain must've mixed up the alchemer variations with the vaporizer variations. There aren't any shock bombs!
Might be neat though, huh?
Doesn't the Ionized Salt Bomb cause shock?
It probably should.
I have some of the best guns in game, but the positive of bombs are the following:
Advantages of Bombs:
Can do multiple damage to monsters
You can move around while using a bomb
Makes it easy to solo now a days
Disadvantage of Bombs:
Certain bombs have high charge rate (Which means they can take up to 7 seconds to charge if you dont have any bonuses)
Certain bombs can make your movement slow which BLOWS
Bombs take longer time to kill monsters at times, and if struck you have to charge all over again.
Guns:
Advantage:
Kill monsters from far
Many options of guns
Move and shoot and do a little less damage
or Stationary shoot which does more damage
Charge attacks are real useful for certain guns
Disadvantage:
Usually focus on 1 Monster while shooting
Takes longer to kill monsters
Reload time
Overall:
IT really goes on your armor, and your playing style I have over 5 bombs, and out of them I only LOVE 1 of them and like the other 1.....and I think the rest just suck.
As a bomber, and a frequent blast bomb series user, ide say you havent experienced the usefulness of the series or havent used it at the right times or the right way.
And to clear up a few myths, yes it does inturupt most monster's abilities and knock them down. Although there are still a few it doesnt effect. Lumbers, most jellies, devilies and a few others arent effected by the knockdown or inturupt.
As a side note though, it does help a lot if you have the bomb charge time ultra on both head and suit. 2 second blast bombs are fun :3
Although, bombs arent for everyone. Some people prefer guns, some swords.
Bombs are my favorite weapon type. The knockback of the Nitronome can be chaotic on groupmates, so I usually rely on the Vaporizer series when grouped. The Venom Veiler in particular is amazing, especially with the recent boost to Poison. Sun Shards are also lovely.
The Salt Bomb series is pointless now, since while it provides an Ultra Damage bonus to slimes, it does piercing damage, which they heavily resist.
I made the Graviton Bomb in hopes of it being able to keep Kats and Wolvers from speeding around, but they're able to escape the suction vortex like it isn't even there. =/ It might be a bug.
Although i agree the salt bomb's damage bonus is completely useless now, the bomb itself is not. Its great on monsters that are weak to pierce (beasts and fiends) and the ones that are neutral to it too. Also when you hit the ionized salt bomb, it includes a nice little shock debuff to those that are hit by it. Vaporizer series are nice in groups, i agree, but are over used and over hyped. Also with the right amount of practice, using a Nitronome in a group is still possible, just make sure to angle it so the monsters are knocked into walls or away from people.
Imo, the most useless bomb is the graviton one right now. Too heavy while charging and it doesnt really do enough damage to deal with many monsters. The only thing its really good for is to hold a group of mosnters still while your buddies beat on them in the vortex.
I'll just throw my favourite bomb combinations out there.
The Shivermist Buster and the Graviton Bomb, if you place the Buster and time it to freeze the monsters around the time bomb explodes, they'll still take the damage and break the freeze, but they won't get blown away.
So you can set up another Graviton straight away.
It's the safest combination for CC you can get.
I used to use it in the 2nd preview a lot for solo, I don't know if it still works now, but it should.
If the Ionized Salt Bomb causes shock, it's a must have right now.
Since the other combination I used to use was the Graviton Bomb and the Crystal Bomb, to deal massive DPS to groups of monsters.
Shock would just enhance it with that AoE it has now.
Generally speaking, bombs aren't as good as other weapons until you get to 5* items (in my opinion). 5* bombs have pretty awesome blast radii that make them actually useful. Popular ones are Ash of Agni, Venom Veiler, and Radiant Sun Shards. Also, you may want to try one of the haze bomb variants. I'd recommed Fiery Vaporizer (will eventually be able to upgrade into Ash of Agni), you'll probably find it at least a bit more useful than a blast bomb, because it leaves a fiery haze that will light up monsters that pass through it and they will continue to take fire damage for a period of time.
