A Few Questions
Hello. I am relatively new to Spiral Knights, and I have a few seemingly not-so-obvious questions. I apologize for my ignorance if any of them have been answered elsewhere, as I must have missed them.
- Is every Guildhall the same? If not, how do we change them?
- Are guild Ranks preset? If not, how do we change them?
- Do we need to earn gate-specific Tier Passes in order to instantly jump to a certain floor of a certain gate?
- In general, would it ultimately be better to have [a large bonus on one type of monster], or [a slight bonus on all monsters with a damage penalty on one certain type]. (This question basically sprouted from the Fallen vs. Valkyrie comparison.)
- This is less formal, but... what is the easiest method of heating up Equipment? Solo play before bosses? With bosses? What about team-play; with one other, two others, three others?
Thank you for any answers and/or advice.

- Yes, they are currently all the same.
- Yes: Recruit, Member, Veteran, Officer and Guild Master. There's "/g" for guild chat and "/o" for Officer/Guild Master Chat.
- No, there's only Clockworks Tier Clearance, no individual gate clearance system. There once was individual gate clearance, this is leftover in the "Progress" tab of your character status.
- That's entirely play-style. I personally have a High or Ultra Bonus to at least one monster type on my weapon assortment.
- The two best Depth types for heat/crowns equipment are Graveyards and Arenas. Some boss lead-up levels are also good, but there's only two bosses in existence at the moment. Heating a full complement of gear can take a long time, some prefer to do one item at a time; it takes just as long overall, but this way you can get single more powerful items faster.

A bit more info on:
3. The only per gate clearance now is a crown fee. If you haven't ventured down to that tier from above in that gate you'll have to pay a fee of 200/500 crowns for T2/3 respectively, but you can always automatically start at that level provided you've got overall tier clearance.
5. The same amount of heat is generated per person whether you travel solo or in groups, but each time you revive a dead party member you gain 30% of their heat, so traveling with others (especially those who like to stand next to exploding blocks) can help you level gear more quickly!
Ah, thank you d0gr0ck and Ynahteb for the sufficient info. I suppose I'll be off to find some Valkyrie Recipes, Sun Silvers (ack), and maybe a few block-huggers.

The main downside to the Valkyrie set is that it gives you a huge weakness to fire.
Something only insane people would enjoy having.
You'd be much better off crafting a Crown of the Fallen with a Valkyrie Mail if you really want that balanced form of play.
Since it negates the fire weakness, gives you that extra poison resistance and has the same damage resistances as using the full suit.
And it requires one less Sun Silver as well.
You will still be weak to Curse, however. This status is only inflicted by the Faust/Gran Faust swords, though. So if you don't use them you'll be fine.
If you do use the Faust/Gran Faust, it would generally be better to wear the full Valkyrie Set and try not to eat too much fire.

Don't damage bonuses no longer stack now, as well?

Well if that's the case, why even bother having them in the game at all?

No I was mistaken - the devs just said that damage bonuses against certain families of monsters no longer stack ridiculously.

Yeah, they still stack, stacking just used to be broken giving WAY more damage than intended. While dealing >1k damage per hit was fun, it was a bit unnecessary :)
Yes Shoebox, that makes sense. I was planning on a universal set when I said that, but I suppose it would be best to "suit up" depending on the type of gate you are going to run. I'll probably aim for Fallen first to avoid the Sun Silver so early, and add Valkyrie to my list once I get a couple Sun Silvers.
As for the fire weakness... would it make me more vulnerable to the fire status effect, or would I take more damage from fire-augmented attacks (if those exist)?

Well if you stand in a fire, you're going to get burned either way.
The fire defense reduces the duration and damage though, at least from my experimentation.
Well that's unfortunate, being as Vanaduke would take lots of extra damage with full Valkyrie equipped, yet he would probably burn you to a crisp at the same time.
What's worse is that you can't defend fire damage now.
Also, does Vanaduke count as a fiend monster or what?
As far as I know, yes he is a fiend-type. At least this is what I was told last time I asked. But yes, it would be even more suicidal to go against him with Valkyrie now, despite the damage bonus.

When the lower levels of a new gate were locked prior to a boss appearing, the levels that became Lord Van were locked as "undead".
A new gate has levels locked as "fire", however, and a dev thinks that may also be Lord Van. I'm very confused as to what categories are assigned how.
(This is the only confusing part, though; overall, the new gate creation system is very, very nice)
Hmm. An indicator as to what type monsters are would be nice, unless this mysteriousness is intentional.
Now that I think about it, though, it would make more sense if Vanaduke was undead being as he is surrounded by undead monsters.
We're wondering whether Vanaduke is undead or fiend (or both?). Also, I don't believe there is any subcategory for actual elements, just elemental all on it's own. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only Attack/Defense categories I see are Normal, Pierce, Elemental, and Shadow.) For example, Ice, Fire, and Shock are all under Elemental - there is no statistical distinction between them aside from the status effects. It might be cool if there was, though... Pokemon!?
