So everyone knows about the new guns right? The one I'm talking about here has elemental damage being shock and has a special, unique quality to it. That is, the shot gets more powerful the farther it goes.

This may be true to anything not weak to elemental damage, but when used against monsters weak vs elemental, they actually take LESS damage from a fully expanded shot than a shot up close. Basically what I'm seeing, it's not adding the extra damage for weaknesses for the pellets that expand. This doesn't make sense at all, and is probably a glitch. Anyone care to explain? If not then I'm pretty damn sure it's not intended.

Yep, it's a bug, we've been talking about it a lot lately, hopefully they fix it. Kind of ruins the whole gun.

It's just that the explosion

It's just that the explosion counts as "normal" damage instead of elemental, so not even the fact that it's stronger overpowers the elemental base damage bonus that the normal shots get.

I noticed the damage was to low

I noticed the damage was to low myself. Just upgraded my pulsar to kilawatt and knew something was off. Does anyone know if it is the entire gun series or just that one?

I did some testing...

...and it appears for the kilowatt lines, the normal explosive shots deal Normal damage, and the charged attack deals Elemental-it displays orange damage numbers. I'd love for this to be fixed, PRONTO.

What enemies did you test it

What enemies did you test it on, and in which area?

EDIT: Reading this thread's title makes me imagine a bespectacled Snipe dual-wielding these guns. It's a 2-Killawatting Bird, and its name is Atticus Snipe.

The long-range shot is most

The long-range shot is most likely normal-type damage. I tested the kilowatt pulsar against a chromalisk in vault (I can't remember which depth, first half of T2 I think); it did 7 damage short-range (typical for elemental against beast), but 26 damage long-range. The numbers for the long-range shot weren't grey either.
