Is there a secret to fighting these guys (in Tier 3) without getting hit? They don't have any noticeable patterns for me to predict when they start their assault and when they wiff, they pull out another chair so freaking fast that they'll more than likely hit me before they die. I use Barbarous Thorn Shield so I can't take their hits worth crap. Any tips you have for fighting these little bastards? They're #1 on my most hated baddie list.
How do YOU beat up Devilites because they destroy me!
I drop a few shivermists then kill them with two attacks from my fiend mid final flourish.
Alternatively, I just run around and one shot them with the charge attack of the same weapon.
Alternatively, I bomb them with dark briar barrage while running around.
Alternatively, I die to them.
In large numbers, it's best to keep moving and keep shooting... It's a slow process but it works because when using a sword, doing a single swing will risk you getting hit from the others that maybe behind you or even out of your view. Having a piercing gun works best so get the Antigua/Silversix/Argent Peacemaker.
If you don't have a shivermist, you'll likely need a fair amount of shadow defense to reliably clear a fiend strata. The key is to always keep moving; if you ever stop for more than a couple seconds you'll have 5 chairs flying at your head.
If you do have shivermist, spam it until everything is frozen, pick off a few, then refreeze. Rinse and repeat.
Devilites are easily the hardest mob type in T3.
One word of advice, which can be applied to any mob with either a fast ranged attack and/or whom move fast, charging up ANYTHING is practically suicide unless you're skilled because you need to be able to throw up your shield (or at least I find this is the safest way to fight them). Instead weave, dodge, and shield your way to them and hit them once or twice.
Don't get greedy and try for an attack that will leave you unable to shield cancel for more time than your other attacks.
If you can, pull them away from the others. Fall back into the parts of the level you've already cleared as far as possible so that you only have to deal with a few at a time.
Oh, and another thing, do not destroy the crystal blocks. Seriously, leave them up and use them as shields to dodge behind.
Either pull one Devilite at a time, or aggro the whole swarm at once. Both methods only require you to block/dodge ONE volley, giving you time to cut them up.
The worst possible situation is when all the Devilites are attacking out of sync, one after the other - absolutely no room for retaliation then.
Devilites are very agile and will avoid every normal shot, if you shoot at the wrong time. If you are not so good you should buy a gun of the Magnus Series that deals piercing damage. Magnus is a special gun that shots are count as explosion, not as bullet, Devilites and even Wolver wont step by side if you use this gun.
If you're more expirienced you can use every other gun that deals piercing damage. Even Blackhawk. Most of all weapons have a higher dps than the Magnus. How ever, for Devilites, if you shot em in their face right when their charging, they will drop the chair, trash, what ever they carry, also they fall back and you will hit them with every hit like any other Mob. But you will need to learn this, for begin try Magnus.
mfg :)
"Devilites are easily the hardest mob type in T3."
I disagree, I have a much greater fear of the lightning greaver swarm, or an off screen rocket puppy shooting at me from the end of a twisty mob and spike covered path.
Best thing for devilites is to kite them to a walled corner or unbreakable block and hide behind it, they will attack the wall/block and with some clever kiting you can get one just close enough to quickly hit it with a rapier without having to take fire from the others.
If fighting in a closed room, kite in inward spiral, attack once, then flee the incoming counter barrage. Rapier is the best choice since it has a very fast swing.
Keep in mind that they never turn while charging their attack, so it can be easily avoided by strafing, never fight in the middle, kite until you have them all in the same direction.
Draw their attention one at a time and shield tap.
If you just shield, they won't attack very soon.
Let go of your shield for about a second and immediately put it back up.
They'll throw their chair/snowball/fire thingy/computer/trash and they will be vulnerable directly after.
Hit it then.
If they're in groups, the timing is much less flexible, but the same thing applies.
Wait until they've all thrown their stuff and then attack.
A good shield helps.
