Normally I never lag at all in any boss level, but in the new boss dungeon I always lag, and the lag is just so bad that I can barely play sometimes. Developers please fix this, this is really annoying and it is really getting on my nerves.
Ironclaw Munitions Factory - Way too much lag - Developers MUST read!
No this game does suffer from a lot of network lag, i lag myself, and have a tri-core phenom 2 proc, 4 gigs ram, nvidia gts250 (500MB card) and i get total screen lockup for about 1.5 seconds, usually in a big fight....
This has been reported before, and seems to be caused by network issues, not hard to imagine, given that SK just recently hit 1 million accounts.....
Tweaking the graphics MAY help, but your ping will be more the determining factor...
i hav a super(really good, not up-to-date high end) computer, usually hav max graph settings, i turn them down to minimum for new map and still very laggy
The only problem is that in Ironclaw Muntions Factory, I lag even if I switch to the lowest settings. This does not happen anywhere else so I can only guess its the level's fault.
I'll agree here. I usually don't experience any lag that truly affects gameplay that bad, but there's a noticeable difference the moment you step foot into the munitions factory, it's not periodic lag, it's like the entire framerate constant drops alltogether.
Same. The game runs flawlessly for me wherever I go (aside from FSC but the FPS drop is negligible), but the moment I step into IMF I take a significant hit on my framerate. It's playable but very annoying. I also get a one second freeze every 2-3 seconds when I enter the Warfare Workshop depth.
Same thing here. I think the map is too big and loaded with lots of stuff, and of course the fog doesn't help. It's even worse than FSC. I'm running the game with the minimum graphics settings by the way.
Try lowering your graphic settings all the way down. I did that and it helped a tad bit. I would also suggest closing any other applications like youtube, itunes, facebook etc. Apart from that, it is still fairly laggy and could use some work.
I just don't understand how could they not note this when they tested. I haven't spoke with one single person that says the game runs fine for him on those levels, it just has bad performance to everyone I ask. People with integrated intel graphics chips, people with nvidia gts cards, it has no difference; it's like the JVM has a kind of cap on itself. The levels need to be simplier and less foggy, and that doesn't mean they have to be bad. Some of the most enjoyable and cool levels are like this, as the royal palace, lichenous lair, etc.
"I haven't spoke with one single person that says the game runs fine for him on those levels"
Okay, I'll be that person. I haven't noticed any significant framerate problems in IMF. Though really, the only place I have a horrible framerate is at the Core...
@lufte
My computer is 2 1/2 years old and I've never had graphical "lag" in any area of SK including IMF. Network lag is another story.
I wouldn't say I get great framerates, but I get playable framerates on my 4890.
That said, I get higher framerates playing Crysis on High, than in IMF. Something's wrong.
i don't lag at all there either, try doing it in a haven with less ppl like 30's instead of doing it in 0's
@Malicus
As you, I also have the worse framerate in the core, but since you don't actually have to play in that level it doesn't bother me. I should note that I can totally play in IMF, the framerate is not making the level unplayable but it does make it akward.
@Metaphysic
Yes Metaphysic, I am talking about fps drop and not about network lag. Thankfully I do not suffer that.
@Silty
Yes as I said to Malicius I can play the level, the framerate is playable as you say, but at least in my case is not enough to make it an enjoyable experience. I don't know how to measure but I would say is less than 20 fps.
@angelgod
I don't think havens have any influence on the framerate you get on a level. As I said to Metaphysic this is not a network lag issue.
All of my friends experience the same thing. It's just those two levels prior to the final fight; the boss itself is fine.
It seems to be a lot like the Arcade issue. A lot of people experience a significant FPS drop in the Arcade and it looks to be very similar in effect to that of the Munition Factory. Not sure why it's happening but the majority of people experience it to some degree. Not game-breaking but a bit odd when you can get 60+ everywhere aside from those two levels where it seems to hit 30 or even less.
I changed another computer to try to see if it is the game's problem or my computer's problem, there was only a little lag when I did the first run, unfortunately, I failed the run because my team does not know how to deal with Scuttlebots without randomly hitting switches and after we all died, one of my friend won't even sacrifice 5 energy to revive (I already revived to the point I don't have enough energy to revive anymore and the other guy that went with the two of us is out of energy). And unfortunately again, on the evening I tried the second run and I had extreme lag even when I am not at IMF (I was in the Venom Fang Arena). The enemies would just stop on the spot, players would continue running in a straight line through walls and I can't attack the bots. Eventually, I have to close and open again, but this time after I chose the character, it won't show the loading screen to Haven but the character screen with 'Heading to town'. What's wrong? I am sure it is not the computer's fault as they are fairly new.
When they first came out with this level, I sent in a Support Request and they told me...

Please send in a bug report via the F2 key if you continue to have performance issues in the new area. It's possible that there's an issue there the developers may need to look at.
In the meantime, our performance FAQ covers some helpful solutions that may be worth checking on: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Performance_issues_FAQ

Dude, Like said before, this map is WAY to big, the amount of missiles that go off are huge, they even leave a small smoke trail behind em which takes a few seconds to disappear. Since that recent patch saying that the shock pads will turn off once the gates are open, I haven't yet seen if the lag in that level is gone, but why the shock pads, but not the rockets?
Anyways, I must agree this level is a lag storm, I can play FSC on high quality and have no issues, yet this place on low just kills me. My CIV's attacks charge at random. D:
It is now 04AUG11, and I still suffer from horrid lag issues the second I get into IMF. Every 5 seconds or so my screen freezes for about 2, which may either kill me or make me stand in a random spot (usually in the path of a missile...) I have a GeForce GT240 and even with the gfx settings on low, nothing changes. I am East coast though and I hear that all the SK servers are west coast...
Anyways, please fix this issue!
@BareHands86
1. When your screen freezes, can do use your computer at all? e.g. Switch to other tasks, use your browser etc.?
2. Are you using Windows Vista or 7?
3. If your answer to 1 is No and 2 is Yes, then check your system tray (the lower right corner) when the freeze happens. See if there's a yellow triangle icon. Click/hover on it and see the balloon text.
I asked those questions because what you described sound a lot like your video driver crashed, instead of network lag. Network lag will only cause Spiral Knights problems, not block your computer's any other functions.
Vista/7 can recover from a video driver crash, unlike in older OSes where you'll get a blue screen of death. When the driver is being restarted your screen will freeze (as nothing is there doing the video update). The video driver crash will also show up in Event Viewer, under the System node.
Video driver crash has a lot of possible causes. Driver needing a patch, overheating, or hardware failure. If it's overheating, tuning SK's settings way down will possibly help reduce its frequency, or at least delay its onset.
I'm on an old laptop and I'm still running great FPS.
Either your computer is infected by a virus, overheating, needs to be defragged, or just plain sucks. You can always close other programs and processes, and tune the graphics down to low.
