Suppose I want a curse res trinket, and I can only afford the worst. there's no chance of me getting it, instead I obviously want to get the best. It would make so much more sense to make each version cost the weaker version plus the tokens needed. It could be a variation on the transmuter, just not needing to buy a recipe.
Make the token trinket ladder worth climbing.

I agree with this. It's very frustrating wanting trinkets, but I can't afford the best ones. So I have two choices. Waste tokens on the lesser trinkets, or wait to get the best, and not have any trinkets at all until then.
In that case a trinket recipe that uses tokens? you decide if you buy the max right away or use the recipe if you got a lower trinket
