In general, the bonus from

In general, the bonus from damage types isn't enough to compensate for a difference in star rating, so the Ascended Calibur is better.

But I'm not sure why you need the gun, I solo'd all of Jelly Palace aside from the boss with a Nightblade and Shocking Edge.

The Ascended Calibur will

The Ascended Calibur will work better since the charged attack is very useful for crowd control (unless you get a 4* ice branch brandish, since it's charged ice burst helps a lot too), if you plan on doing more "Jelly Farming" after beating the JK a couple of times get the sealed sword and forge a Faust, thats the best "Jelly Farm" sword.

Best items IMO for the stages are:
-Faust or Grand Faust ( beware of self cursing)
-Shivermist (for crowd control, is a team life saver)
-Some high piercing shield or armor since most enemies do piercing

For the Jelly king alone:
-Venom striker or Dread venom striker (To poison the JK so he can't recover HP) and Curse Vials
-Faust line too (with poison vials), but be sure to have some curse resistant equipment or at least 3 "blue pokeballs" :3

Also be sure to bring a decent team, if you see someone who can't survive on the first levels of JK you might want to kick him before facing the boss. More poeple = more health for JK, it's always better to be just you and another decent player than having 2 pros and 2 newbs on the party...

Right now I have been doing runs with a Vile striker only and a high piercing resistant armor and shield. I have some time playing hack 'n slash games so I have no trouble doing runs with basic weapons.

I got an Antigua regardless of all the negative topics about it, the gun is fun but not really useful, I wish they changed the status of it to only shadow or only elemental once you forge it to 5 stars, that way it would be a really top tier gun. If you are doing JK for the tokens, get the sealed sword first and forge a Faust (if you wanna farm jellies, else get a divine avenger) is much more worth it than any other item and you would use it for the next bosses.

The shield is enough to do crowd control on a regular team but I'm working my way on the shivermist, I have seen a couple of experienced folks use it and it simply makes the work so much easier on JK runs

Always used my Calibur (from 2* to 4*) on the Royal Jelly, with good enough performance.
For most swords the gap between 3* and 4* is huge...

the only piercing dmg ur up

the only piercing dmg ur up against is from the jellys and normal-spikes, no? If I where to get a shield more specific for jelly runs it would be the one with highest normal def plus health, since all jellys deal normal dmg with their tackle. The Owlite-line is a good choice overall though, imho.

The Jelly Cubes deal piercing

The Jelly Cubes deal piercing damage, if I'm right (as indicated by the yellow 'circle' under them while they're about to attack).
