Sword for Devilites and Greavers...

My understanding at the moment is that a peircing sword would be the best to use in destroying these pesky buggers. My questions are:

In you opinion which would you recomend is best for handling those creatures?

**I love the look on the Snarby blade and the charged sounds good against greavers... a nice wave of piercing spikes, but the fearless rigadoon and stun chance sounds pretty solid for handling the greavers as well.

And as a primarily, 3swing sword user, gettting used to my soon to be DA, how do these peircing swords differ in attack range and width?

**From the descriptions on them they move in fencing style of a straight line with no real width, moving forward a little bit at a time.

Rigadoon says slash, is that a wide swing in this case?

Snarby Blade says knocks back (on first hit?) and then does another 2 hits. Is the knockback a pro or a con, and do the next to hits still connect after?

The regular attacks on all

The regular attacks on all the flourish-style (this includes snarby blade) swords are the same. The things that these piercing swords are good at killing all have very low HP. Rigadoon is usable but I don't think it is the best option. By the time you stun anything they will be dead.

Barbarous Thorn Blade and Final Flourish are the two best options. The choice of which you want really depends on which charge attack you prefer.

The first attack on all

The first attack on all Flourish style blades is a wide-arc swing. Almost 180* in front of you. Very similar to a normal 3-hitter.

After that, it does 2 straight jabs that covers a lot of ground.

A good way to use this is to separate 1 target from the pack.
Even to pierce resist targets, you can use the style of attack to achieve this effect. Then swap swords later.

The first attack will actually hit a bit behind you as well. You can pop 4 treasure boxes in a square formation with the first swing. Using the first swing only pretty much makes you immune to greavers.

Ignominious is right, the first swing of all these swords is a tremendous arc. Also, because devilites are weak to piercing and it's a strong attack, it knocks them back nicely. You will find while soloing that the best approach for devilites in teir 3 is to swing once then shield. It's not really possible to use the charge attack as most of the time it will end up with you being dead before you can get it off or shortly afterwards. So the charge attack should be decided on based on your style fighting beasts. Personally I like the flourish line charge attack because I can power through a huge pack of wolvers, taking out the two healing butterflies in the process, and emerge from the other side unscathed.

As for final flourish vs rigadoon, I went with rigadoon. Part of the decision is aesthetic. The final flourish is silver and glowy, looks awesome. The rigadoon is gold and glowy, looks awesome (awesomer, in my opinion). The stun I have found to be quite effective sometimes. Especially when dealing with Trojans and Vanaduke (who are also fiends by the way). Stun is one of the better debuffs considering it doesn't do any damage. Because of the wide arc if you swing it in a pack, usually something will come out stunned. I don't think it has ever come out to be a critical strategy though, it's just a nice bonus to have on top of the sword that slightly compensates for the lower damage it does vs Final Flourish. (just like it's hard to notice the stun, it's equally hard to notice the lower damage)

Almost forgot to mention. Once you have any of these swords, you just laugh at the thought of greavers being anything other than floaty pieces of paper. They may be annoying now, but they are a joke once you have a rapier. Just click "attack" till all of them are dead. Or laugh and let your group die while you hide.. then go kill all of them without taking 1 point of damage (again.. just click till they are all dead, no strategy necessary, nor charging).

OK, pardon my lack of deep understanding of swords, but...

If you can only really hit once with these piercing weapons, what is their advantage over one hit from a DA? According to the wiki, on Stratum 5, the final flourish does 193-237 damage against devilites, while a DA does 184-231 damage. The DA does better against most other monsters.

Even a Leviathan blade doesn't do that much less damage than the final flourish. I happen to have a calibur with VH vs fiend that I've pondered leveling up and with that UV, the damage for the first swing is almost exactly the same as a final flourish.

wrs: I guess the only advantage would be that the first swing on the flourish is incredibly fast and the shield cancel on it is even faster (it happens way before the end of the swing animation). I think the only sword with a faster attack to shield speed is the cutter but even then it would be incredibly close.

For Devilites, I suggest

For Devilites, I suggest something that hits fast. Slashers are pretty good against them seeing how light damage cancels their attacks. Piercing weapons are also a good option for speed and extra damage, but just make sure only one is gonna throw stuff at you.

For Grievers, my Khorovod makes quick work of them. Hitting them once cancels their attack, and since they love to group on me, they can all get stunned and I can keep them in front of me. If I miss a swing, I can shield and recover quickly enough to avoid damage. Just be careful double-swinging.

That's my preference against those enemies, anyway.
