Is Polaris a good alternative for Argent Peace Maker? (After the bugfix)

Any thoughts/opinions?

Thanks
Also, I don't mind if it isn't as effective as argent, as long as it's viable for the job :p

I did a run with someone using the Gigawatt Pulsar, and it works like a charm. I think its viable enough.

Good in some areas

It's good in some of the areas because of the AOE splash and knockback, but for Vanaduke any piercing damaging gun will obviously out damage it. Also there are a couple stages that are really close quarters so you won't be getting that nice knockback.

I feel an alchemer is going to be more helpful, and the AP isn't the best gun for Citadel either, unless you have only one gun, there are much better alternatives.

Ohh

Alrighty, thanks for the feedback!
That's quite reassuring =]
Don't want to jump in too quickly though... :x

Anyone else have experience with it, I need to decide quickly!

I've been playing around with Polaris, and I can see it being useful in FSC once it is fixed. I'd probably still take an elemental Alchemer even then, but I suppose I'll have to wait and see whenever they get around to fixing it to say for certain.

Hmmk, i guess i'm going for the polaris then.
I'm not too big a fan of argents dual damage type.
Plus I like some eye candy =]
As long as i don't feel completely useless in duke, i'm happy.
Thanks peeps.

Hm

The knock-back is the best and also the worst thing of the gun, from what I have seen.
(dps vs safety, etc)

wait about the fix...

are we talking about watt-polaris having normal damage on its far shot and elemental on its short shot?
its really annoying that im not dealing elemental with the blasts...

BUT

that knockback effect!
it stops a bomber-gremlin good! The fellow cant stand up at all when cornered...
and shocking monsters is easy as pie...

still want elemental damage for blasts....

I was in a party with a gunner who was using the gigawatt pulsar on Vanaduke and it seemed to work pretty well. It kept him shocked. I don't know what kind of damage that was doing but it did interrupt quite a few of his charges. Seemed pretty useful.

Dunno about the gigawatt

Dunno about the gigawatt pulsar, but my Polaris (level 10 with no gun-damage boosting gear) was doing I think 110 damage per distance shot when not in mask form. It does shock him quite a bit too, rather useful indeed.

Elemental > Normal

Did they say that the normal damage on blast was definitely a bug and they were going to fix it? I really want this to be the case. The two types of enemies that 'benefit' from the switch to normal damage over elemental are gremlins and beasts, and those are both terrible targets for guns anyway (especially one so slow).

Yes, an admin said it was

Yes, an admin said it was doing the wrong type of damage on the thread in the bug report section. He also said it has been fixed and will be included in the next patch.
