The most recent balance patch is...
...ironically quite unbalanced. Tier 3 is next to impossible now. Heck, even Tier 2, which I used to breeze through, requires a little more concentration. There's almost no reason to use certain weapons or armor that grant you specific bonuses because the bonuses they grant you are nigh useless. There's no reason to pick up that Vitapod +25 when you'll die in three hits anyways.
Seriously, guys, it was fine before the most recent patches (ie like mid February)- what the heck happened? Even with fully upgraded 5 star equipment, the game becomes next to impossible in deeper depths.
We expect it to get harder as we go deeper; we don't expect it to get exponentially harder. Further, this is just a really unbalanced kind of hard where any pretense of using skill is removed- it becomes a game of timing. Block, attack, run away from that pup turret which has a flamethrower of infinite range, repeat. You don't necessarily have to be a bad player to die at those depths; anyone short of a total god with hacked equipment will be dropping like a fly.
Hey rags.
This is Hiroyuki.
Anyhow, I do agree with the notion that T3 is party material, but it should also be soloable.
I mean, it is soloable (save for vanaduke and his castle), but it's difficult without running away gunning enemies.
That's the thing; it makes you play in a certain way. A certain boring, repetitive, unexciting way. It's not impossible, and I'm not saying that you should be able to just rush blindly in without bothering to raise your shield once, but the enemies have seriously become overpowered.
And Vanaduke... it's possible with a lot of CE. He's retardedly hard, with his respawning Slag Guards, insane amounts of health, and 7 stages of combat.
Although its nice to see them encouraging party play, you should still be able to solo an area, and while difficulty should scale with the party size, the current set up is really quite silly. There's an enormous difference between having two people in your party and having three insofar as enemy damage and health goes.
Also, ohai Hiro.
A friend of mine actually refused to continue playing with the current unbalancing. Full 5* upgraded and still died regularly. We were grouped too, and it was still impossible. The game was great how it was, with a little tweaking of weapons to balance them all out. I, too, have stopped playing until the patch notes show a change.
I think the enemies are as tough as they need to be in the respective tiers, so it's armors and weapons that need rebalancing so that they CAN be combined in useful ways.
Right now there seems to be only a few equipment trees that make T3 survivable in a party, which limits play styles dramatically, so more and better balanced equipment might be the answer instead of nerfing monsters--just my 2 cents.
Tier 3 is not that hard if you take correct equipment and play with someone else. I heard Nick once said T3 should be party content, so I think he's getting there.
Except for Vanaduke who is quite impossible with or without a party.
