So Steam recently did some kind of client update and after restarting it and going to play Spiral Knights, it was missing from my game library. I tried to go to the page on Steam to download and reinstall it, but it simply refused to- it would show the download progress for a split second and then stop and say that Steam was downloading it and that I could check the progress of the download etc etc. Well, I figured I could at least use a shortcut, so I picked "Create desktop shortcut", but when I ran that, it simply went back to the first download screen and made me try to download it again. There was nothing in my downloads tab, either. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

It might had corrupted your

It might had corrupted your clientregistry.blob or the game's manifest. The manifest can be found in the steamapps folder spiral-file.ncf, this will remove it from steam without actually deleting the game files. When you try to install them again, it should scan/validate the existing files.

The client.blob is connected to the Steam Profile. Deleting it will be like reinstalling steam (but won't delete game files). Once its recreated, you install games from your "all games" list. For games where the files are still present, it will scan/validate existing files before trying to download anything.

I have seen Steam get stuck on updates in the past, and usually you have to delete the files its stuck on updating, or delete some random files in the game cache to force it to actually download something. You should also clear out the steam log files to make looking for the problem a bit easier.

Looks like it was a manifest

Looks like it was a manifest corruption, as soon as I deleted that and redownloaded, Spiral Knights showed up in my library again. Thanks for the assist!
