Currently when I see an energy door I don't feel good. I want the treasure chests, but I feel that what's behind the door will not be worth the energy spent to open it. I don't think I'm alone in this. After opening and passing up a few energy doors, I thought of a way to make the treasure chests behind energy doors feel more satisfying. Equipment treasure chests. These chests will always be behind energy doors.
What's in the chest? It could be a divine avenger. It could be a proto sword. It could be a chaos cloak. Who knows? You won't know until you spend the energy to open the door. The only thing you are guaranteed is that there will be "free" equipment behind the chest. (by "free" I mean equipment not obtained by exchanging real money. For instance you won't find rose regalia equipment or static flashes in those chests.)
But I'm not suggesting having divine avengers in T1. I'm not suggesting having a ton of 5* equipment found at T3 either. Instead I suggest that the equipment chests be more of a gamble. The loot in the equipment boxes should be adjusted for the depth they are at. Further, you can get good gear at T3 depths, but it's not certain. I'm thinking of a scheme like this:
In strata 1, one equipment box holds one 0* item
In strata 2, one equipment box holds one 0* or 1* item
In strata 3, one equipment box holds one 0*, 1*, or 2* item
In strata 4, one equipment box holds one 0*, 1*, 2*, or 3* item
In strata 5, one equipment box holds one 0*, 1*, 2*, 3*, or 4* item
In strata 6, one equipment box holds one 0*, 1*, 2*, 3*, 4*, or 5* item
That way, you have a chance at getting better gear as you progress though the clockworks. But the chances of getting exactly what you want will go down as you go for higher level equipment. The thought of getting something really good should be enough to get players to open those energy doors. If players didn't get what they want this time, then they should feel that it was worth a shot. Maybe next time they'll get that shivermist burster they wanted so badly.
Agreed, right now all energy doors apart from danger rooms are a terrible scam. Needs to be something that makes them better.
