Volcanic Pepperbox vs. Blitz Needle

I'm sure this has been made before but I'm too lazy to use the search bar.

I'm in love with the autogun series. I'm more of a party up with my friends from school, guildies, and cousins type of guy so I don't hold aggro often. Now, when I first started Spiral Knights the autogun recipe was the first thing I bought and I wanted to actually go for a 5 star one now. But which one? It seems similar to the "Leviathan vs. Cold Iron Vanquisher" thread. Volcanic Pepperbox seems more useful in most occasions since its normal damage and can cause fire. But then again, the Blitz Needle outshines the VP when it comes down to FSC and Vanaduke. I love occasional "no boss and just for fun" tier 3 runs so I thought VP would be good. But when I want to do Vanaduke then the gun seems useless and its rival seems more helpful. Yes, I do Royal Jelly Palace more often but when I want some real crowns I go for FSC.

Help me out here! Post your suggestions and comments below! :D

Being a fellow gunslinger, I

Being a fellow gunslinger, I personally recommend having one or the other on hand as needed by the upcoming strata.

I use the Needle Shot more often, though, due to its faster projectile speed and tighter cone of fire. The only time I rely on the Pepperbox is in Ironclaw Munitions to deal some hurting on Roarmulus (hasn't failed me yet!).

What's an autogun?

imo Autogun is situational at best, and I only got one for Blitz Needle on Vanaduke. I guess a Volcanic Pepperbox would do as well, and without the frustration of having the only things WEAK to it be the only things that like to DODGE it, as is the case with blitz. Anyway, seeing how you already know the debate, you know this post is just gonna start more of the same, so do what you feel better about, hell, just drop the Autogun altogether. More debates probably won't help you solve this.

Look for a CTR UV if you want to really use autogun line though.

--> Find/craft an autogun with CTR:Medium or higher
--> Autogun is now more difficult to dodge and does a ton of damage.

I love the Needle shot line's charge attack for interrupting enemies with its bullets (and it's also great combined with valkyrie against trojans - 1 charge kill lol), and its regular shot has nice range.

Pepperbox is actually usable vs more kinds of monsters though, but loses out on range.

Thanks for the help!

I just decided to go with Pepperbox series. Crafted my autogun (since it was cheaper that way and I had the recipe forever) and got Increased Attack Speed UV Low. Is that any good for the gun? Oh, and in FSC will the gun hit low on zombies or regular? I know it hits normal shots but the fire part is what's confusing me. So in FSC it hits normal but it just doesn't set them on fire? I can live with that.

I actually really like this gun! The DPS makes up for the inability to move in my opinion, but I'd still stick with my Neutralizer when I go solo though ;O LOL.

When considering the damage

When considering the damage type, only the monster's class matters (Undead, Slime, Beast, etc) so Normal will NEVER deal lowered damage just as Elemental will always hit Undead and Constructs for extra damage. The fact that you're fighting against the Fire version of the Zombies (who are still undead) just means that they're immune to the Fire status. I could shoot them with a Firotech Alchemer and still get the added damage but the Fire status would be lost.

Well, you've already made

Well, you've already made your decision now, but I'll throw my two cents in for anyone else trying to make the same choice:

Apart from the obvious difference that Piercing vs. Normal damage makes in the decision, and how important the chance for Fire status is to the player, what a person really should look at is how the two weapons function.

the needle shot series of course shoots farther, and narrower.. (yet on smaller monsters you will typically only see a couple of the shots hit around the maximum range, so you'll still want to use it up close whenever safe to do so to maximize the damage) and then the weapons have very different charge attacks. The pepperbox series ones will BRUTALIZE a single monster because every shot pulls the monster towards the source of the bullets; if one hits, most of the rest will hit as well, but if you wanted to blast a group it's not the best choice because the first monster will "block" (and by "block" I mean "get shot in the face") all of the other bullets before they hit any others. The needle shot series' charge attack however does not move monsters at all and can easily pepper a few at a time for healthy damage (or destroy one if you get in point blank) and additionally seems to be extraordinarily good at causing INTERRUPTS. Often multiple rapid ones over a small course of time that leave the monster flopping and or flipping in place helplessly until the attack ends.

I own one of each, though just the 3* versions for now. I'm TRYING to invest my energy into some armor and helm upgrades before I go spending it all on more weapon upgrades again. :-p

Zelda

just my personal opinion i like the smooth little voice of needle

CTR isnt very good i got high ctr uv lvl 10 and i dunno the animation is WAYYY too long and then the reload also cant walk, no knockback, no shield..if ur in a situation wher dats ok, might as well charge up, also have to shoot 1st before charging(keep in mind i got max asi, but that 1st shot is still annoying) making the charge itself look even less significant

for a fun gun it really wont matter which 1 u pick, i also doubt u wana use these things against vana unless ur pro in dodging xD

I don't really charge using

I don't really charge using guns so I don't have to worry about a mob pwning me I guess xD. But I wanna be able to take down those puppies with my gun without the damage penalty you know? So I chose pepperbox. Its pretty fun if you keep moving after shot and dodge.

@BiggestLoser I saw a guy using Blitz Needle in Vanaduke :O just don't hold aggro while using it LOL.
