What version of ATI Catalyst

What version of ATI Catalyst drivers are you using? The peanut gallery that is Google suggests that downloading a fresh driver package from ATI/AMD and reinstalling can solve this issue.

doesnt fix it

Dxdiag says my version is 10.1 but I just installed the one that says its 11.6, its not wanting to update. Either dxdiag inst refreshing properly or its rolling itself back to a slightly older one. Tho the version I am running should be new enough to work with this.

If you hit the save all

If you hit the save all information button, it'll drop a txt file on your desktop with the whole print out. If you can grab the snippet on display devices, or just upload the whole thing to pastebin, that'll be helpful as well.

And is it one of those laptops with the switchable graphics chips? Seems like those things are a pain to get working right.

I stumbled on an article

I stumbled on an article stating that this kind of error could occur if your Windows DEP settings are too strict. You can check it by going into Windows system properties in the control panel, advanced system settings, and click the Data Execution Prevention tab.

Default is turn on DEP for essential Windows Programs and services only. If you have it turned on for all programs, you'll need to white list any programs that run into issues, or change it back to Windows programs only.

I don't think we're going to

I don't think we're going to get any where until we figure out which module is causing the error. Make a note of the time of the system clock, then try launching the game. After it pops the error, go to Start and right click the "Computer" link and click "Manage".

On the left pane, expand System Tools, Event Viewer, Windows Logs, Then click on Applicaion. If you work down the list you should find one indicating the error, likely as a Critical.

I searched the whole

I searched the whole application log file right after causing the error but there was no error listed. I even kept refreshing it but no log with the time in which I caused the error again appeared. So either its not detected or its in another log somewhere.

Heres another thought I had. Are you launching the game from an admin account? And what version of java are you running?

How I fixed it on my computer

Dead thread but not a dead problem.
Uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Manager from Control Panel -> Uninstall Programs, did the All AMD components selection

Then I went into device manager and uninstalled the AMD Radeon HD display adapter. Had to move the cable from the card to the onboard graphics connector. Then reinstalled the Radeon drivers.
Just doing the uninstall and reinstall did not work until I did the device manager thing. In fact, the uninstall gave me a blue screen the first time.

Windows 7 64 SP1
ATI HD6600
Intel i7
Z68 motherboard
