Character Pages!

Howdy,

As you can tell from the title of this topic, I highly suggest browser based character pages for every single one of our Spiral Knight players.

Simply because,
1. Some of my friends that don't play Spiral Knights ask me to show them my awesome gear as a persuasion for them to start playing, but sadly I can't do that without them having to create an account and get into in-game first. But with the Browser based Character pages, it would be a lot less hassle for both me and them!
2. Achievements! =Must= If your character pages have tabs, you can also show your friends what achievements you have and from the progress you are making in Spiral Knights.
3. Reputation! (Optional), If you find a specific player that you think has helped you out greatly and has become a great friend/team mate to you then you can of course give them a Reputation point to their character page daily. It could also be called FAME since it also a bonus point to popularity.
4. Giving feedback to a friends Character! (Optional) I would think it would be awesome if you could comment on a friends character page just with our main account. Of course if trolls/haters post on your character page it would be nice if there is a option to delete the comment.

There's several reasons I can think of why there should be character pages in SK, but honestly I do not want to bladder on.

Bragging rights would be also promoted.

I hope you take my suggestion into consideration,
Thanks for taking your time to read this,

-Rath

To add to my suggestion, I have gotten yet another great addition to add to it! With all of your items being listed on the character pages, all of the items should be directly linked to all of the individual items in the wiki pages! This would promote the Spiral Knights Wiki as well!

There are plenty of reasons why this should never be implemented, but I honestly don't wanna bladder on.

I hope you take my criticism into consideration.

That's...not criticism.

That's...not criticism. That's "this idea is bad, but I'm not going to say why."

This would be a potentially fun addition to the community, but I can see it being tricksy to implement, not to mention putting some kind of unnecessary strain on Three Rings' webservers.

In the meantime, why not start your own character pages on, say, an independent website for your Guild? Free hosting's easy to get, templates are easy to make or acquire, screenshots are easy to take.

I like this idea

I strongly agree with Dracowrath. Character pages could be self-updated instead of screenshots like the idea posted above this.
Charcter pages would be an awesome way to get Spiral Knights better known.

I play another online game named Adventure Quest Worlds, and they have character pages. Link:

"But I can see it being tricky to implement, not to mention putting some kind of unnecessary strain on Three Rings' web servers."

Yeah I would think it would be tricky to implement, but it's not impossible plus from our character pages in-game have already got a big part of the code that would be required in the character pages, which would again. Be saving a lot of hassle =). That would. I would only think it would cause strain if a mass amount of players are viewing the character pages at once. I would think the Spiral Knight server's could handle that due to the amount of players they handle going online in-game 24/7.
"In the meantime, why not start your own character pages on, say, an independent website for your Guild?"

Aye, I already do that. I just thought it would be a great addition to add to the Spiral Knights community all together. Plus, I'm very curious to see how it would turn out.

I think it's a GREAT idea!

I think it's a GREAT idea! Besides, people could fill out "profiles" for their characters and create ACTUAL characters! ^^

Steam

Just one thing: if you run the game with steam, you can take screenshots in game and post them to show to your friends and they can easyly see your achievements.
About reputation, that's what guild ranking (member, officer, etc) is for....

@Juances

Reputation has nothing to do with guild rankings -.-

Dracowrath is trying to say there's a system where anyone who views said character page could have a +1 reputation option. The more reputation the have, the more popular you are. Guild rankings have nothing to do with it. At all. Nobody except guild members can see your guild rank. -.-

Also, screenshots don't help anyone. A character page would not be a screenshot, it would be a flash picture connected to your account so whenever you earned an achievement or changed your gear it would automatically update. I don't think (as a player who changes his gear daily) it's worth it to take a screenshot 3 times a day. Tis why this topic was made~

Actually, the "automatic

Actually, the "automatic update" thing might be kind of a stumbler - a lot of people, especially those routinely running T3, have multiple loadouts that they change between strata to suit the upcoming environments. If you've got a go-to setup, or a costume set that you use all the time, fair enough; but some people are changing their appearance (and resistances, buffs &c) between three and nine times daily, you know?

The link I posted above uses

The link I posted above uses flash and automatically updates itself, and it's not that hard. Spiral Knghts already has the in-game inspect code, just as Dracowrath posted. It wouldn't be that hard to transfer it to the browser in the form of a character page.

I think that this is an

I think that this is an EXCELLENT idea! It would be a fun feature to the game and would help it advance. I agree to all the terms and optionals that would follow the "Character Page" layout.
I know another game, like Gamer, that I play that has a Character Page design. But its way more similar to the production Dracowrath has, then to AQW.
The game is called Epicduel and it is by AE (who also developed and works on AQW).
Example of a character page: http://www.epicduel.com/charpage.asp?id=Nightwraith
This shows a reputation system as well as a commenting system. Although the comments are via Facebook, it can be changed so that the comments are posted via Forum Account.
The listing of items would be interesting and MAYBE being able to design your character page background and design (such and such) could be an added bonus if you pay CE or a large amount of crowns? Idk, but this is a great idea and I hope it gets implemented into Spiral Knights EVENTUALLY.

If you are worried about game interface problems concerning lag and game space, it shouldn't be a problem. Most of these interfaces are already used in realtime gameplay (ie. Item switching for updating character, Inventory for listing items, Achievements which can all be listed with the icon with or without it next to it, etc). It will be easy to add but as said I am not sure about the amount of space that it will take up. And if adding the reputation and commenting systems would be difficult or space consuming I understand. But this would be a GREAT way for people to interact and could help each other out and stuff.

Simple solution to the

Simple solution to the potential of autoupdate of character page being 'kind of a stumbler' -- predictable autoupdate time. Probably Upon Logoff.

Which is to say, when you Log Off (but not when your program crashes, such as if your computer suddenly loses power or you accidentally close the winder with the X, as opposed to Options Menu > Quit) your character page updates.

I don't think it's necessary

I don't think it's necessary to have profile pages for our characters. It also sounds too 'complex' for the SK's simplicity.

Let's just create Wiki pages for your characters ;)
It's fun :D

It's not that complex at all,

It's not that complex at all, and by making a wiki page you would have to update it contantly which is a hassle.

Thank you!

Wowz... I honestly didn't expect so many replies. Thank you for taking interest everyone ^_^.

@radekpsk, Thank you and the profile thing does sound nice, not quite sure how it could work though. I'm sure there could be a "info" tab for that.

@juances Heh.. I get your point but sadly, not exactly "everyone" knows how to take a screenshot in-game. I know it's hard to believe but it's true.
As for the reputation, that isn't what I meant at all.

@GamerGuy219 Nice to see someone that understands what I'm trying to suggest =), thank you for pointing that out. Juances, here is your answer "Dracowrath is trying to say there's a system where anyone who views said character page could have a +1 reputation option. The more reputation they have, the more popular you are. Guild rankings have nothing to do with it. At all. Nobody except guild members can see your guild rank. -.-"

Exactly! A screenshot frozen picture of a character is not what I was trying to suggest at all! A flash based system of a character in-game would make the character pages stand out a lot more! And trust me, I doubt very much there would be ANY lag at all unless your overloading your poor browser with 50 tabs at a time.. lulz.

@DarthLOL No reputation? Do you have anything to support why they shouldn't? I don't think "It sucks the fun out of everything" is going to cut it for me to be honest... xD.

@Effrul Hello again. The automatic update shouldn't be a problem at all s'long it IS linked directly to the game server. I doubt it would cause ANY issues at all when people do change their gear. It all depends if the code they would link directly to our accounts is nice and neat without any broken strings to it, as I said before. They already have the code in-game, "it's not impossible plus from our character pages in-game have already got a big part of the code that would be required in the character pages, which would again. Be saving a lot of hassle =)".

@GamerGuy219 Thanks again

@Kakyoro Thank you! I personally think it would be a great next step for the game as well. Great examples for character pages!

@Yokai Your character should update straight away after you have equipped or gained a new item. With or IF the character pages are linked the real game time, there shouldn't be a problem on that note.

@Noctuelle For all of you that are suggesting about these wiki pages, I strongly dis-agree and think it's unessential information to add to the wiki, the wiki should be about all of the items and a guide on help you in-game. It is not a community to show off your characters.
