Me and my friend sometimes play together and we found that about half of the time we were following each other.

i liked the fact that you can do multiplayer and stuff, but if youre far ahead of your friend, then what do you do?
i find it boring to just not move at all, so i was hoping for a speed controller based on how far the cursor is from your player.

the farther it is, the faster you run.

SIMPLE,right?

Makes aiming on the move a hassle, though, at least for the relatively small proportion of players that use mouse-only movement (I think it's fair to say that the majority use keyboard controls for movement). The idea of a "walk" key has been suggested before, which would address the problem you're talking about without interfering with extant controls.

Yep, he's right man. Most people use the keyboard, w-a-s-d. Not a bad idea though, credit due. why walk slower instead of waiting though? I mean really, does that walking sequence exite you that much? Mabey they could have a sprint function, so you double tap but you can't change direction or sheild.

Sprinting could break certain

Sprinting could break certain timing-based hazards like spike traps, though. I suspect enemy movement and projectile speed are calibrated to player movement rates, too.

Maybe while sprinting you

Maybe while sprinting you could take a little more damage if you were to be in contact with an attack. After all your not really 'prepared' for the blow.Just a small thing to try and balance out "sprinting".

That would stop them breaking

That would stop them breaking the puzzles. But what about the aforementioned enemy movement and projectile speed?

"But what about the aforementioned enemy movement and projectile speed?"
---EDIT---
Enemy Effects:
+50% Increased Projectile Speed
+30% Enemy Movement Speed - this includes when enemies spawn
+100% Damage Taken from a Sprinting Attack
Construct Effects: Touching a player during a Sprint Stuns them.

Player Effects:
Sprinting Attacks - (Maybe even a Sprinting Charge - if you are Sprinting - you do more damage with a swing/charged swing. Guns/Swords would have reduced accuracy/radius, maybe bombs could roll? You'd have to stop sprinting after you touch the Attack button, obviously.)
+100% Damage Taken when you are Sprinting
+150% Status Infliction during Sprint (making getting hit more punishable. By this I mean at the time of getting hit - not when you have, let's say, 5 seconds of Shock left, it won't add up to 7.5 seconds)
Shield only protects front of you during Sprint (same as above)
+30% Speed Boost during Sprint
5 Second Sprint (Maybe even disable sprinting with the Ancient Armor)
15 Second Cooldown - spam prevention, and no one sprints forever (...and no cooldown if you are using Quicksilver Series Armor(?)).
Limited Turning during a Sprint (5 Degrees a second. If you've played Team Fortress 2 and used the Chargin' Targe for the Demoman - it's more or less the same thing)
Shield Bashing while Sprinting causes further knockback
Sprinting into a solid surface or a Construct causes Stun to yourself
No Sprint during Status Ailments (or maybe an increased Cooldown)
Shielding while Sprinting does not shield against Status Ailments

Just a suggestion.

Re: MiralMarkas

Sounds doable. However, there is always the inevitable fact that we will never know what kind of effect this shall have on combat until they are actually implemented (or tried out on every single dungeon/Tier/Boss/Enemy to sort out any game-breaking problems). One thing which troubles me greatly is the +50% projectile speed and +30% movement speed, if this ALWAYS on then it feels like SK is penalising players for not using sprint.

Also, could you divide your post into 'Enemy Effects' and 'Player' Effects' to make it easier to read?

Reflection

This thread has changed from a suggestion for cursor-controlled movement speeds (or an option for one) into one for a sprint function.
Think we should create a new thread and move the sprint stuff there?

I organized my stuff. Also, maybe Sprinting should be a defined rate of speed increase (like I specified). For those who enjoy WASD (like I do) - maybe you could use the Shift Key to Sprint? Also - on the topic of moving your mouse further away from your character to increase speed could also effect the duration of a Spring.

Thanks for spelling mah name wrong C:

Edit: OT - Sure, we could start a thread on it. You can start it, just copypaste my contents in a citation.

Great work on you organizing

Great work on you organizing MikalMirkas. By the way the new topic should be up now. It's 'Sprinting Function'. And could you give feedback on what I have currently done.
