I guess it is useless with a strike needle.... :(
For a game like this you can just face target with the mouse while using WASD to move whatever direction you so desire.
Wouldn't this be considered strafing as you are shooting while moving to add space/avoid attacks/give you time/etc.
The difference is that with strafing, yo can aim your gun at any direction while moving on a different direction.
Which is what every gunner should use, using just the directional arrows like a normal "Zelda" game will get you nowhere if you are a gunner, and is not just gunner exclusive, swordmen can get also quite a benefit from this, specially if you have a special charging attack (for example freezing mobs following you with an Ice brandish charged attack while escaping)
For tier 1 and 2 this is not really vital (if yo are not a gunner) but on t3 you will need every skill you can get
That is exactly what I posted.
You move with WASD while you use your mouse/pointer to face a direction of your choice.
Doing this allows you to shoot/slice/whatever in the direction you want to do it While moving in a different (or same) direction/angle.
I find it odd that everybody went on a tangent about strafing when strafing has very little to do with dodging in this game.
To dodge, you watch mobs and focus on their attack gestures. Also take note of the distances at which they choose to perform each of their various attacks. Once you learn these things, you can trick mobs into doing what you want them to do and you can avoid their attacks by simply moving out of range.
Strafing is shooting while running. To do this, you have to configure your controls so that one directional input (arrows, mouse, wasd, d-pad, joystick) controls which way you move, and another controls which way you face.
I have a Logitech gamepad. I hold the gamepad with my left hand and I configured the left analog joystick to control my direction of movement while my mouse pointer, controlled with my right hand, is used to aim. I find that makes strafing quite easy and effective. I can shoot gun puppies while dodging their bullets, and run circles around lumbers as I shoot them, thus dodging their whacks.
