need a new gun... Going with a alch. Got a ap already. Which gun(s) are the best overall? I was thinking either cyro or volt line...
Which Alchemer?
Cryo is very nice, in about the same settings as magma (constructs, undeads), my only problem with it is the redundancy with shivermist...
Cryo is the best for gun puppies and retrodes because when they're frozen they can't aim at you.
I'm guessing you can't go wrong with any three of the elemental alchemers, though. Fire will do more damage but the puppies will keep aiming, and voltech will be in the middle with a little more damage than cryotech and slightly slower puppy aiming because of the shock interrupts.
I have a shiveermist already though so.... That's y I was debating.
While its true that you can freeze gun puppies with it i can't really find it that useful, the spread on the 5 bullets in tier 3 is still big and most likely it won't change a thing if you freeze the puppy when its aggroed from the front, it can be of some use when coming from behind though. Its of great use when you can assure that the ice will thaw naturally, it does 2,5x the damage a bullet does, or something along that, but its pretty hard to achieve when you try to freeze more mobs because if your bullet ricochets it destroys the damage and the monster won't be hit. Meanwhile, Magma Driver will provide you a steady bonus damage in the form of fire ticks, you can check the fire ticks here, data collected by culture. From my experience the fire ticks on my magma driver were a little lower, that might be just my hazed memory though but from what i recall you will deal a little less in the end that you would deal from the monster thawing from the ice.
If you're going to use a shivermist you're probably best off with a voltech. A cryotech would be redundant and a magma would counteract your own, not to mention your parties, freeze effects. Meanwhile the voltech's shock can synergize with both freeze and fire as well as adding some decent damage through the shock ticks/shock spreading.
If you solo, I would still go with Hail Driver.
I primary uses guns when swords/bombs are out of reach or it's undesirable to use them, a freeze gun is a god send in this situation. Sometimes, there's no way you can shivermist out of the situation.
Well I saw some recipes and got my volt driver earlier. Was thinking about going with volt from the start. The question is, would this be good for FSC Runs? I think it would be since I normally use a DA, AP, SMB. in FSC.
Just as a note, after the buff Nova driver seems to be doing 20% more damage than hail / firo / volt.
"A cryotech would be redundant and a magma would counteract your own, not to mention your parties, freeze effects. "
I refroze a burning monster in the ATH just now, so i'm sure you'd ignite, deal the fire tick and the monster would freeze again on the shiver cloud. Also, why would you use a gun on a group of enemies that is effectively immobile for a long period of time? Plus you are saying that the shock ticks are decent, can you at least provide some hard numbers? From my experience in tier 2 my shock driver would deal 72 damage instead of 60 damage on shocked lumbers, the shock ticks were around 10-15 damage so i wouldn't really call that decent compared to fire ticks. With Nova driver i deal 81dmg to constructs on 17th depth. And shock is really situational and works best with a group of enemies that is really close to each other for it to actually do that said decent damage, only thing that comes remotely close to that is those small jellies from Royal Jelly, or other than that i can't recall anything else, well, maybe you bashing a group of monsters in a corner but that doesn't happen too often.
But the nova driver dosnt deal any effects so
I have the magma driver (firotech alchemer 5*), and I've never looked back. It dishes out fire like there's no tomorrow and it's the best all-rounder for long-distance attacks vs. constructs. I took it on many jelly king runs too and (although it's not shadow damage) it does the business versus slimes and keeps you out of reach of those lumbers.
And the graveyards..... this gun makes easy work of undeads, so you can clear them out and concentrate on the phantoms, and actually do the graveyard properly instead of rushing through =]
Why did I choose firotech and not shadowtech? I find guns most useful versus turrets and any other slow moving monster.. tends to be construct family... so went with elemental since they are weak to this. I haven't tried cryo... might be useful to slow down fast moving enemies... good luck =]
Hope that helps.
