Which one is best? I am having a tough time deciding...
and what is the difference
And which way should I go? Shadow or Elemental. (I am getting a Normal type regardless)

I consider Elemental damage to be more useful than Shadow damage. This is because you don't want to get too close to Constructs (especially Gun Puppies and Retrodes) and Undeads (especially Phantoms) who are weak to it. You won't use Kilowatt Pulsar to kill Beasts and Gremlins (except for the Flamethrower Gremlins) anyways because they dodge your bullets so any gun is pretty useless against them. Shadow on the other hand is strong against Gremlins and Gremlins dodge (with the exception of Flamethrower Gremlins) so this makes Toxic Catalyzer useless against an enemies that is weak to it.
==Edit==
However if you are familiar with how Gremlins dodge your bullet, you can kill them with Toxic Catalyzer with ease.
And you should get both Catalyzer and Pulsar (if you are really not sure which one to get) like I did.
i'd be careful circle strafing a mob with the pulsar. almost got killed a couple times cause it pushed an attacking lumbar into me and got smacked right on the fohead.
That goes with most weapons capable of decent knockback. I've killed myself so many times by flinging a Lumbar into myself with an Arc Razor.

LOL, great joke!
At the moment I'm using Virulent Catalyzer (4*) vs Darkfangs (T3) and I'm fully satisfied with it.
Record a playthrough through some Deconstruction Zone, thanks in advance.
If you line it up so they're facing you, they'll dodge backwards straight into the shot :/
It's way easier to hit them when there's a wall behind though.
Advice me some recording software for PC. Haven't done it before.
CamStudio should do i guess
I've soloed T2 deconstruction zones just fine with my 3* Toxic Catalyzer. Hell I've soloed Stratum 4 Challenge rooms with T3 Gremlins just fine with it. All you have to do is know their dodge pattern and herd them into your other bullets. It's quite easy.
I chose the Catalyzer as I already have an Elemental Gun (Voltech Alchemer MkII). I look forward to using its shadow damage against the slimes in the Slime castle.
Will be so much fun.
All right. I've downloaded CamStudio but my first recordings are not the best ones obviously :-D
Anyway my game become extremely laggy when I've started to record - to the point when all my regular shot became charged ones because my computer haven't noticed that my finger is not on mouse button anymore ;-)
All I can do for now is to post test recordings, but of course you'd rather see more epic battles with lots of gremlins and at least one mender. I'll try to get some ASAP.
Note that I'm rather unskilled player - in the hand of skilled one Catalyzer is far better.
test recording with group of greamlins, but without mender and not in DZ (no hits, even with an awful lag on 0:55)
test recording in DZ, but with single gremlin only (one tiny hit due to overall lagginess)
Indeed laggy, maybe try Fraps now, set the size of recording to half and see how that works, there will be the www.fraps.com logo over it but just test if it performs better.
I hate to break it to you, but the Pulsar series does more damage than the Alchemers do. I'm sure some debate could be made that the Storm Driver's extra ricocheting bullets equate to more damage, but since you can't exactly instruct where those extra bullets need to go, an explosion that can hit an entire group is far more tempting. That and the fact that Alchemers can only get two shots out while Pulsars can get three.
Well, I was going to make a new thread but this stuff answered most of it. Just curious though, if I'm already solidly entrenched into the voltech line (slow, but it works well.) and was planning on getting a catalyzer, but it looks like people think the pulsar is overall better. since the polaris has the same type and status as the voltechs, would you guys advise going for a either catalyzer, or take the heavy pulsar?
Out of curiosity how is the Pulsar's bullet speed compared to the bullet speed of an alchemer? Because if the bullet speed is anything like that of the catalyzer for Pulsars then the alchemers really would be more useful.

It's much slower than an Alchemer. Faster than Catalyzers, but not by much
I dont use my shadow catalyzer.... its more of a novelty with no real use in team play :( (opinion... no flames :P)
Pulsar on the other hand I find is a pretty awesome gun in graveyards and against gun puppies.... pulsar all the way :D
Well, there's a pretty big difference. The pulsar shot transforms into a more damaging explosive shot that splashes and does knockback after it travels half its' range.. plus a chance for shock if you go with the elemental variety. Go with that if you want to spam explosives all over the place from a distance.
The catalyzer, it charges almost instantly and fires out a shot that does no damage but "sticks" to the enemy (orbits around them, to be more precise) and then once you hit that enemy with a regular shot the charges explode, doing a lot of damage in a good sized radius, also with heavy knockback. And you can stick multiple charges to one guy if you want to do some really crazy damage. You get your choice there of dark damage with poison, or just slightly higher normal damage.
Generally speaking the Catalyzers are weapons you'll either use by themselves or to fill a gap where you need both a gun and a bomb. The only thing they really combo well with is Freeze weapons, because you can stick the charges on a frozen enemy without breaking them free, wait for them to take damage from thawing out on their own, and then blow them up. The problem with the Catalyzers is that if your teammates are all stupid they'll feel the urge to always kill whatever you've just tagged with the explosive, and that completely wastes it. You can only detonate it while the monster is still alive.
The pulsar, on the other hand, is the opposite. Your teammates won't mess you up, but since it knocks monsters all over the place YOU can mess THEM up. Of course, only about as much as ANYBODY WITH ANY SWORD does, so I try not to feel too bad about it. ;)
