I'm currently playing sword-only, but I want to change it as soon as possible.
My current loadout is the following:
Ash Tail Cap + Coat
Dark Thorn Shield
Avenger (UV construct low)
Faust
Vile Striker

and I'm working on this:
Grey Feather Cowl (already got Magic Hood UV Stun med)
Skolver Coat
Barbarous Thorn Shield (+ any fireproof shield for FSC)
Divine Avenger
Not sure about other weapons.

I thought about Storm Driver and Valiance, but I couldn't make a choice. I'm totally missing piercing damage, but I actually don't need it.
Normal damage is great for everything of course, but it lacks the status effect of an alchemer. Also, what about the "new" guns? Are there any main sword users with experience?

PS: Tried Autogun and Cryotech Alchemer MK2, but didn't like them.

Valiance

The best gun I have seen:
3 shots (fast)
It knocks bad when you shoot
Normal damge (it will hit everything)
The blast of the gun (the shot) can damage up to 3 monsters
The charge attack is useful (huge cyan ball, deals good damage, and it also backs the enermy a good distance)
(Only bad thing about the charge, it takes a while, and you move slow while charging)

I strongly recomend this gun. (I have one)

Try to get one with a good UV. Charge time reduction or Atack speed increased.

(I'm also going for Storm Driver... [need to get the recipe ony] but nothing like a Valiance)

Autoguns probably aren't

Autoguns probably aren't necessary when you already have a big, slow, high damage weapon, yeah..

As for the new guns, the Catalyzer and Pulsar.. hmm.. for the most part I'd say the Catalyzers are mostly good as a primary weapon... or if you want to have something that is both a gun and a bomb. Though it does combo remarkably well with freeze weapons like the Glacius, but since you don't have one of those, eh. Of course, you could get the toxic variant if you want to poison some things.

Pulsar is good for making sure far away enemies STAY far away, because once the shots have travelled half their length they not only do more damage and splash, they also push enemies around a bit. If you're really feeling the desire to inflict shock or smash gunpuppies you could go for the variant there. Also kind of amusing is that the shots explode if they reach their maximum range without hitting anything, so you can actually blast dodgy enemies by spreading the shots around a bit and firing from the maximum range.

Honestly I think you should

Honestly I think you should go with Antigua its more of a "run around and shoot" kind of gun which I'd assume you'd need if your strong swords can't cut it for you. The bullets have far range and fast speed.

The Pulsar and Catalyzer are definitely fun guns but they take some getting used to. First off they have slower bullets than the Alchemers. Secondly, their range is a bit shorter. The Pulsar has knockback and can cause Shock if you upgrade it like that but the knockback can mess up teamates if you don't know how to use it correctly. Its also bugged right now where the enlarged shot deals Normal damage down the Polaris line. The Catalyzer is really fun if you can set it up, especially down the Biohazard line. However with the slow bullet speed its harder to load charges on faster enemies and even tougher to do with other people slashing away at enemies, they may even take out the enemy you charged up before you can blow it up. Its to note that the Catalyzer has an insanely fast charge speed.

If you want a gun for

If you want a gun for FSC/Undead stratums, but generally useless outside of those then go with Argent Peacemaker. The two-types split damage is a terrible thing, each gun of antigua line deals only 87% of its maximum to 2 groups, and a little above and a little below half of the maximum to the rest species, for Argent Peacemaker the 2 groups are Fiends and Undead, for Sentenza it's Beast and Gremlin. There is now way you want to use AP against Devilites since they dodge like hell and you will take a lot of time to get some damage on them due to the nature of the gun (6 clip shot, each shot deals minor damage), Greavers, those you don't want to fight with a gun unless its an Magnus line gun but thats not something you are looking for. As for Sentenza, gremlins in Tier 3 get the shield and like to dodge even more so it gets much harder to get some hits on them. And for Beasts, generally each your shot near a wolver that doesn't hit him will trigger its teleportation in Tier 3, having someone in party who tries to shot them with a Sentenza is an absolute horror as Wolvers also can teleport when they are doing the attack animation so you can basically spawn an alpha wolver on your face for the mess damage you'd deal him. And the real use it gets from me is crystal cutting / block cleaning / switches at Roarmulus Twins, but thats only the utility not combat use.
On the other hand we have Valiance, thats a really great weapon, it has a 3 shot clip, each shot pushes the monster a little back, its easy to master 2shotting to not reload, damage is really fine for a gun that will deal the same damage to all monsters, the splash is pretty okay i would say, nothing outstanding though.
Also, status effects on guns are overrated, especially shock, its only useful on groups so if you really want an alchemer you can go with the Nova Driver, its got recently a boost - in the second part of Tier 2 i deal around 81 dmg to constructs, and my weapon is still only at lvl 6.

I think well rounding is more

I think well rounding is more armor dependant. using things like gunslinger/wolver/demo makes you weapon dependant, and since you have 2 weapon slots with 3 damage types, theres always a void.
I use valkyrie helm and dragon scale mail. Vakl has Medium bonus to feind, Drag has a medium bonus to beast. They are both weak to peircing, so use a shadow and an elemental weapon. Now you have a high damage weapon for all the monsters exept feind and beast (since you would need peircing) but those weakneses are mostly covered by the medium bonuses. plus, you get curse, posin, and equal ressistance to all 4 damage types.
My point is, you can't have one all-rounded weapon that's effective one everything. You have to make an intire set for the maximum balanced damage.

Thanks so far. For the AP, I

Thanks so far. For the AP, I know the problem of split dmg and its general usefullness in FSC.
I'll stick with my swords first, as I cover up elemental and shadow damage, the gun would be used for any situation a sword is not recommended with. The medium bonuses against fiend and beast are nothing important.
I think I'm going for the Valiance if it can compete with Storm Driver etc.
