Smart right stick on gamepad?

I have read the wiki and tried out different configurations, and I can do both parts of what I want, just not together.

I'm using an Xbox 360 wireless pad, (not that the model matters as long as there are two sticks), and I have the following problem.

There are two ways to configure the sticks :
Left stick does it all : the left stick controls movement and aim direction, the right stick does nothing. this gives a Zelda-esque gameplay which is confortable and fast, but isn't useful at all when strafing around an enemy firing shots into the fray.

Left stick does movement, right stick does aim : This is a much more versatile setup, with an aiming/movement style like Geometry Wars and Alien Swarm, this allows for circle strafing, back tracking while firing at the horde of mobs chasing the player, and basically any kind of manoeuvre you need, but it means you need to have both thumbs active ALL the time in combat, and requires you to aim the way you're going when charging and stuff.

I would like a hybrid system, where left stick does all, unless there is movement on the right stick, and the right stick grabs the aim until it returns to center position.

I may simple have not found the option, but I believe this isn't possible at the moment.

you can use the shoulder

you can use the shoulder buttons for attacks if ur thumbs are full. but i dont get why would have to aim the way ur going when ur charging and stuff.

also, i dont understand ur hybrid system

The closest you'll get is

The closest you'll get is Look/Move on LS and Look on RS. This allows you to freely look around when you're not moving. I think it's a good compromise. I just switch to M/KB when I want to do any precision shoot while moving type of stuff.

edit: Another option you have, since you'll probably rarely have to move and shoot at the same time, is to do the following mapping:

LS - Move/Look
RS - Look
Dpad - Move
L3/R3/Back/Start/Face Buttons - for health pots

I do what eek5 does; swtich

I do what eek5 does; swtich to keyboard/mouse anytime I require precision shooting. There are very few occasions where it's actually needed.

The hybrid system is simple

The hybrid system is simple :

The left stick moves and aims the character if the right stick is idle

And if the right stick is tweaked, it aims, while the left stick moves.

Use that subforum for suggestions. It is unlikely that anything like that will ever be implemented though. I tried out the dpad solution and it works pretty well, allowing you to use both control schemes. It will also prevent you from activating two potions if you fumble the dpad since each pot will be on a discrete button.

maybe you can map the d-pad

maybe you can map the d-pad to move, left stick to aim/move, and right stick to aim

I agree that I had the exact

I agree that I had the exact same thoughts when I started this game. If they could make the "look" part of "move/look" be disabled, when the "look" command is being used. That way you can run around and gun, but when I want move and look together was usually when i was using sword and shield.

I found that using just "move/look" was much more comfortable when using a sword, but when I wanted to use my gun the separate controls were much more intuitive and comfortable. With keyboard and mouse this meant going from only using the keyboard to switching my right hand to the mouse. This was alright, but there were times when I couldn't shift that hand do what I wanted.

The problem I had with ONLY using the keyboard/mouse was that in a crowded fight I would occasionally lose my mouse pointer and end up swinging my sword in a different direction than I wanted.

I agree please make this suggestion in the suggestion forum because it definitely would be a nice addition.
