Lag / Servers

I'm on a 256kb/s in Australia so not every online game is going to run smoothly for me. I was playing until about 2 months ago. My computer can more then handle the game itself on high and the lag was barely noticeable.

I come back just recently and now it's pretty laggy. Where are the servers located? Will they add more and will they be international?

I've already turned down all the settings to see if it helps at all. It would be a shame for me not to be able to play since I did find this game pretty fun.

My net is faster than that,

My net is faster than that, but I still only get 1 bar.

900ms ping, it's been that way for me for the past 2 months.

Recently on a lot of gaming

Recently on a lot of gaming related websites I visit I've seen a bunch of "Join Spiral Knights Closed Preview 500 spots only" and they all seemed to claimed within hours.

wait that thing in the top

wait that thing in the top right hand corner is the ping????.... well since i can remember it's been red. and how many players can get onto the server? i remember back in the 2nd preview it was near impossible to get on cus it was full, but when you did get on there was next to no lagg... i know the limits been increased, but it seems it just laggs instead of limiting players.

I've had full green...

AND STILL VERY LAGY. Hardly worth playing when you can't see what's killing you, and by the time your attack comes, or you've moved where you THINK you want to go, you disapear and reappear somewhere else completely off kilter. Stinks. Unplayable in my opinion, and I have a fast DSL here in the states. JAVA MMORPG, no thanks.

I've had few performance

I've had few performance problems in the beta previously (barring graphically intensive levels) Today, even on previously "safe" areas, I noticed my connection indicator fluctuating wildly during levels, with absolutely wretched lag. Part of this is due to the load of new players, I'm sure, but I think that equal consideration must also be given to the way that the server completely overrides the client when lag is an issue.

Also, considering said lag: it's worth noting that joining parties and revives are both still full price, even in this lower-prices special event.

I'm hitting issues

Attacks go off late or don't go off at all, I rubberband into spikes or bullets, or get hung up on corners when I'm trying to move. It wouldn't be a big problem on a game like WoW, but it makes a difference in a game like this where spacing and timing are important. Ever played L4D2 and had a Jockey jump you, and all your movements are getting resisted? That's what it feels like, even though my connection icon is consistently at three bars, dipping sometimes into two.

Well good to know I'm not the only one.

Are the four "cellphone" bars in the upper-right the lag meter? Mine never changes from 4 blue bars and yet I've experienced horrendous lag since Friday. It's true that lag isn't fun in other games, but in this one it's a serious issue as positioning and aiming are so important. Plus, dying costs you real money. Though maybe the most rage inducing moment was when the lag pushed me into an elevator before I had a chance to break all the treasure boxes nearby.

Hopefully a mod or staff

Hopefully a mod or staff member can at least let us know if this is going to be addressed and how before release. Nothing worse then playing a game on day one and then everyone flooding the forums with complaints about performance since the community isn't being updated with what is happening.

Hm

@Pyronic
Not really, since it's server side lag.

Yes, we are aware of the problem, and fixing it is a top priority (my very top, and I am the lead programmer). It's not easy because the very thing that separates this game from other MMOs (real-time action) also makes it very server-intensive. We'd ask that you bear with us as we tweak and experiment to find the optimal solution. Hopefully you should see some improvements as soon as this weekend.

All I can say is that I hope

All I can say is that I hope all the money I've spent on this game is going towards better servers. Horrendous lag is expected every time I play; fortunately I don't have framerate issues in addition because my computer's got pretty good specs, but it means jack when I'm flying all over the place and have no idea WHAT the hell is going on.

Well, it's gotten to the point where it lags so much where even at just Emberlight, the game completely disconnects me. I hope this is resolved before April.

I was thinking today that it seemed more responsive than it had in a long time. Did something change, or is it just a quirk of my connection?

I did a fair amount of

I did a fair amount of server-side optimization last week, and we added more servers to the mix, so any lag you may experience is unlikely to be caused by server load. There's still more to be done, but we're in much better shape than we were last weekend.

Much Better!

I must say, it ran much smoother for me yesterday, but I also finally got my internet fixed so it wasn't lagging so bad on my end either.
