Every now and again, usually when a large group of enemies appears, my screen will freeze, go blank (for 10-15 seconds), and then resume - with me, dead in the middle of the screen.

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
2918 MB RAM
Windows XP Professional
ATI Radeon 9200
- 128MB video RAM

I have the latest video driver, though it is really old. (Thanks ATI)

Any ideas?

I'm guessing you've also gone

I'm guessing you've also gone though a Java update at the same time? Many people experience a hiccup when a lot of objects/enemies spawn at once as the Java system fetches everything into the game.

I also assume you've got the game running on "Low" settings with "Compatibility Mode" checked.

I'm brushing up on the Radeon 9200 and it's looking to be (unfortunately) a somewhat cut down rehash of the Radeon 8500 that's been listed as minimum hardware spec. However, some people have managed an agreeable (for them at least) experience on under-rated hardware.

Also, your quite sure that you've got a 9200 and not a 9200SE, which is even further cut down.

update

I have the latest java update. Low and compatability mode, check and check.

I'm positive that it's not an SE.

And I'm not positive what my connection speed is (I'm at work right now) but it's a middle-tier cable package. Fast enough to stream Netflix at the top quality through my tivo.

Connection speed should be

Connection speed should be too large of an issue. I've had a 200Kbit/sec forced connection speed with no issues. I know others have had issues though.

I just found the Catalyst 6.11 (your latest but very old driver right?) release notes and there's only one unrelated bulletin relating to OpenGL. I'll keep poking around but, unfortunately, I don't think there's a fix out there waiting to be found. I'm afraid you may just be suffering the effects of a minimum spec component for a game.

to be continued...

update (5 minutes later): screw that teacher he's boring..., i found a sourgeforge.net link to OpenGL with downloads available, I hope this works for you, if not... go try and get a somewhat better graphics card maybe.
