As in, you only get mist tanks for money, right? What about crystal energy and such?
Do those who don't want to pay money only get a max with the 100 mist energy?
Do you HAVE to pay money to be good at this game?

You can get by in this game
You can get by in this game never buying Energy. However, you can get started MUCH more quickly, by spending the minimum amount for 750 Energy. This can get you into end-game content quite quickly actually. It will only take a couple weeks.

Paying money will get you good gear faster, but "has good gear" and "is good at this game" are very different things.

LOL there are tons of players that have 5 star gear who are TERRIBLE at this game. Having great gear does not really mean you'll be good at the game.
Also you do not need to pay anything to be able to get to the end of the game .. it just takes a lot longer. .. but really there is no rush, play and enjoy what is happening.

Paying with real money will get you gear faster, it won't make you a better player though.
Anyway, you could probably reach end game gear in a MAXIMUM of two months without paying.
I did it in 30 days, but I had a friend start me off with a 2* sword Calibur which was hell of a help.

Well i recommend not to pay for crowns and Ce because it just gives you good gear.Plus the fun of the games will pass faster and you will find yourself bored most of the time.

To answer your question in the title.
As mentioned in a few post already. Paying for CE with real life money will just get you end game quicker. Some people would rather have the so called top of the line equips than learn the basics of the game, or they are just lazy (which doesn't make sense to me). It's not till a little later they realize that equips do not make you suddenly good.
I have been playing a little over a month and have several 5* items and have yet to drop a single dollar into this game. I will however pay for some CE for aesthetics purposes like costume equips. :D
Sit back and enjoy the game it's not going anywhere so there is no need to rush to end game content.

Personal Experience
I reached tier 3 with some of the most hard to get gear using only crowns... took me maybe 1 month or so. This game is completely F2P.
Its like, all of us have cakes. The cream is in front of us. All of us can reach out and put it on our cakes. Those who pay money, can have it passed to them.

You can buy CE (Crystal Energy) with crowns, and thus there's no limit to F2P !!!
There are many F2P players that made it to the (current) endgame, and there are numerous threads on these forums about that...
