Temporary Network Outage After Pop-Up

Normally, I play SK on a Mac. However, my computer is very old and the game runs slowly. As a semi-solution to this, I try to play on my mom or my brother's PC laptops. These newer laptops run the game smoother so I play on them when I can.

Recently, after an update, while opening SK I got a pop-up message in the bottom right asking to allow permissions for something. Not reading the pop-up carefully, I clicked on block as opposed to Allow Always or Allow Once. I got this message on both the PC computers and now, whenever I try to login to my account, the window says that there is a temporary network outage.

I don't know how to to get this pop-up to come back so I can allow permissions, and until then, SK is unplayable on the 2 PC computers. I have already tried deleting SK and re-downloading it with no avail. Any help regarding why I can no longer sign in would be appreciated. Until then, I'm stuck with a very slow and annoying computer.

I am very inept at using a PC so step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You basically told the system

You basically told the system firewall to block internet access to java, which is what SK runs on. To correct it, you need to find the firewall's access/exceptions lists and tell it to allow java.exe and javaw.exe. Reinstalling the won't help because the rules are already set.

How you do this depends on what program is doing the firewall function on that machine.

Thanks starlinvf I'll try

I'm sad to say that allowing java through the firewall didn't help, I still got the same message.

I use steam for my primary account. (Still doesn't work ATM) However, when I launch SK through the website, I can play on my secondary account.

Steam uses a bundled JRE as

Steam uses a bundled JRE as part of the install, so you'll need to have rules for files in that location as well. Default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\spiral knights\java_vm

The stand alone and web use the system JRE C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6

Within that folder are 2 more

Within that folder are 2 more folders, bin and lib, the bin folder contains more folders and files, are you saying that I have to allow all of these things through the firewall? Sorry for not understanding, but I don't function well with a PC

In bin the program you are

In bin the program you are looking for is javaw.exe. Sounds like you blocked the one in your Steam folder if the game outside Steam works fine.

@BasstardBoy you haven't

@BasstardBoy you haven't given enough of a problem description, errors, etc, for anyone to even begin considering what might be wrong. Plus, you'll want to start your own thread so that tracking the issue is easier for everyone involved.

@DNakaz: Minor error in detail that I didn't catch until now. What program are you checking the firewall in? Is it the Windows Firewall, Zonealarm, or something thats part of the Anti-virus. Once I know which one your working with, I can give some cleaner instructions.

Ok. - Go Control Panel\System

Ok.

- Go Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall
- On the left click "advanced settings"
- On the left pane check the "outbound rules"
- Search the list for the any "Spiral Knights" entries (There should be none)

By default, Windows is set to allow all outbound traffic that isn't explicitly blocked. If you find a rule thats set to block it, then change the rule to allow or disable it.

You should also find 2 rules in the Inbound rules set to allow.

Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I just realized that the McAfee firewall was what blocked java. I got it to work, and I'm sorry for wasting your time.
