I've been complaining for a while that even though I upgrade my armor and weapons it doesn't seem to make much difference. I just noticed today that when I go down into the clockworks instead of my armor giving me +4 health (Mighty cobalt) and my helm +3 health (gunslinger hat) I get just +1 for both. On top of that a single hit from a T1 gremlin makes my Wise owlite shield go yellow. This is a game breaking bug for me. No wonder this game has been so frustrating for me.
Bonuses aren't added on when I go to clockworks, armor and weapons don't level up.
So you're saying that the +4 health bonus that comes with a level 5 mighty cobalt armor won't kick in until tier 3? I understand the weapons are gimped on the lower levels, I don't agree with it but I've known about that for a long time. The health bonuses are supposed to be there always. I've never noticed the health bars going up no matter how deep I've gone down, unless I grabbed one of the add ons that add health.
"Armor provides a base level of protection to a variety of damage types, as well as resistance (or vulnerability!) to certain status effects. Certain armors can also modify other aspects of your knight positively, such as by providing them with several extra health at the start of each Clockworks expedition. "
My main complaint was and is that my max health is not adding up correctly. Instead of getting +7 for my starting health, I just get 7 total to start with.
It isn't a bug. It's called "depth scaling."

- Weapons get stronger depending on the depth you are in and their star rating. At the last depth of tier 2 a 3* weapon will be dealing full damage, while a 5* weapon will not.
This applies to armor, etc.
