I have played pretty far into a level before but I have never finished one. I was just wondering what happens when you get to the end. Is it important to finish the levels?

Sorry, my question is badly
Sorry, my question is badly worded. I mean is it important to finish the entire Gate/Clockwork? I usually get down to the 3rd clockwork terminal before the Gate is closed. Should I just work faster and try to get the the end before it disappears or just go as far as I want and then stop? It seems pretty hard to get to the end of the map. (map as in the graph that you see when you select a Gate.)

There's no core atm, it'll be in later. So if you see something like "The way to the core is closed" at the end of tier 3 then it's normal.

I think thats what I mean haha. but I dont believe I get to tier 3. I get down as far as the 3rd clockwork terminal. or is that tier 3? I thought Tier 3 was and tier 2 were kind of like difficulties that you unlock when you progress. ex: you get to tier 2 when you have all 2 star equipment.

Well.... can't really make out much from what you are telling me here. Maybe post a screen shot or something would help.
Anyway, if you don't have any 5* gears at all then it's safe to say that you are just been stopped in a town by a guard with a big sword.
Also, tier unlock need a certain number runs of the previous tier too.

Well there isn't much for me
Well there isn't much for me to take a screen shot of. I was never stopped from going lower into the clockwork, i was just wondering if I was ever going to get to anything important down there. I got pretty far last time I tried a clockwork. When I looked at the map I was at the 3rd clockwork terminal and there was about 1/3 left below me. I am just wondering what will happen when I get to the end of that clockwork map. Will I get something special or progress to somewhere new?

Definitely! Finishing a level is the only way to keep the heat you collect for your weapons; heat can be used to improve your existing weapons and improve your chances of survival. At the end of the level, you have the option of going down to another level, or returning to haven- either way you are rewarded.

An item can be improved only as far as the dark blue area on the stat bar: the bright blue area represents the current stats, and the dark blue bit on the end represents the maximum potential of the item. If you're dying even in tier 1, I very much encourage you to find like-minded players who can help you make it to the end of a level, or show you the tactics that will help to survive. (Don't be afraid to use a gun to fight enemies from afar until you learn their moves)
As you get crowns, you will also be able to purchase recipes and pre-made items that will allow you to deal more damage and take less in return. Heat will become increasingly more important as you upgrade crafted items to increasingly high levels- it's essential to crafting 4* items at all.
