Right, so right now I'm nearing the completion of my 3* set and am looking to doing some Royal Jelly runs for a Sealed Sword and Antigua. At the moment I'm planning on a Divine Avenger and Sentenza, reason being I figured they would work well to compliment each other between the various monsters with shadow and elemental strengths and weaknesses. However I'd like to hear from folks who actually have these items or their twin counter-parts for an opinion on if this is a good idea? Or should I just go with both Shadow weapons? Both Elemental? Or go with Gran Faust and the Elemental gun?
Debating on an effective combination of weapons.
Sentenza is generally considered a useless weapon. It should deal decent damage to beasts and gremlins, but it causes both to teleport/dodge. This is downright annoying with wolvers. With gremlins you can back them into a corner or shoot into the pack, but there are better weapons to deal with them. The dual damage type makes it a poor choice for every other monster type.
Argent Peacemaker has a similar problem, only good for undead or fiends but fiends dodge. Fortunately it has the highly redeeming value of being useful in FSC since there are plenty of zombies there, not to mention Vanaduke. I wouldn't even bother bringing it to an undead strata, honestly, much rather have an alchemer there if I do bring a gun.
The two-swing swords have a very different play style compared to everything else. Try out the sealed sword, if you love the style then you'll probably want to eventually get both.
I hated two swing when I first got avenger... its sort of an acuired taste... now i use a GF /DA combe and couldn't live with a lighter sword :P
@OP My thought process was exactly the same as yours about a month ago, I got my blackhawk first then an avenger, realised I was only using my sentenza to hit switches so stopped using it (and finally sold it yesterday :D ), began to love the avenger so got a faust to complement it. Now I'm getting more jelly tokens for another antigua (not gonna upgrade it tho) because damm that sentenza was good at hitting switches :P
Ah, yes I hadn't thought of these issues. See at the moment I'm wielding a Tempered Calibur (Low UV against undead) and a Blaster, and I did considered a Pulsar but I mistakenly thought that an Antigua series gun would be better. What would be some swords of choice then for all situations in general? I figured for my first set of 5* gear I would cover all defenses and weapons for any situation first before picking up specialized equipment. Also yes, I'm running on two weapon slots only right now.
The 5* calibur line (Leviathan Blade) is actually very useful in most situations, and not a bad choice at all, unlike most of the other items you can get from the quartermaster. Likewise Nitronome is pretty much a standard bomb, though more people use haze bomb weapons (Soon not to be haze bombs, though... check the announcements if you didn't alreayd know)
As for guns, if you want a gun to be used on anything, the normal damage pulsar's good for that. High utility, outdamages blaster line. Elemental Pulsar's good too, but you'll have a harder time against some enemies (and a much easier time against undead and constructs.) Other guns I'd consider for a first 5* setup would be one of the status alchemers, which have effects that are relevant for the majority of the time (though avoid firotech if you're gunning for Vanaduke, but fire does fixed damage across all monsters it can trigger on)
Sentenza does split Shadow-Piercing. This means it's strong against: Beasts and Gremlins. Both of which dodge bullets. It also has a weakness against undead and constructs, both of which tend to be the easiest monster to fight using guns.
Basically, it's not an optimal gun. You'd be very slightly better off in terms of gearing against everything by going Faust/Silversix, but it's still not optimal. If you can't afford a weapon slot, I'd suggest against using an Antigua-line gun if you want to be prepared for everything, because their damage splits mean the enemy combinations they're good for are awkward. People mainly Get Silversix/Argent Peacemaker for Vanaduke runs, where you can use it on nearly everything, but they're not great outside that. And Sentenza is useless for the vast majority of that run, as well as pretty bad outside it.
If you're willing to grind bosses for weapons, consider getting a Pulsar or Catalyzer to complement your Sealed Sword instead. Pulsar is a very high utility weapon series, or you could get catalyzer to get Shadow damage to complement your Divine Avenger (Or go Faust and get the Kilowatt Pulsar series.) Though if you get a Divine Avenger, you may need an extra weapon slot for another sword to deal with wolvers and gremlins anyways.
