There are rumors that the switch triggers something in the arena. Like wolvers or something. Try doing it clicking that switch then try doing it without clicking it and find the difference. Everyone I'm with always clicks it so I'm curious as well what it does or doesn't do.

It adds additional Slag Walkers to the spawn in the room ahead, as far as I know.
