I thought that it might help new players to know about what to use certain status effects on, and when to use them.
--What made me think of making this--
What made me think of posting this is when I was starting out, I thought sleep was useless, but then I found out how good it is for disabling mobs. I also thought that the shock damage was OP before I knew how that you could block the damage with your shield. I'm guessing this is what happens to most players who are starting out. So, I just thought I would make this guide to help knights out.
Note: This is giving techniques on how to use the effects, not telling you what the effects themselves are, for more info on that, look at the appropriate wiki page.(now you can just click on the name of the status effect.)
Note2: for the 'What [put status here] works well on' section, what I put here doesn't mean that you can only put that status on the listed enemies, it's just what I feel that particular status it really effective for.
Note3: for the 'What to do if you get [put status here]' section, this is assuming you can't use a cure for any reason, or how to avoid using a cure.
===========================================================================
--Stun--
Good for mob control, stopping your pursuers, or for chasing after something. It won't do any damage on it's own*, however, so if your goal is to damage the stunned enemy(s) in question, stunning them will just leave them open to attack.
-What Stun works well on-
Things with useless moves and/or attacks with long wind up/cool down times, such as:
All Wolvers
Retrodes
Lumbers
Gremlins
Zombies
Phantoms
-What to do if you get Stunned-
Don't attack! Even with a with a fast sword like the striker series, your still going to be wide open will attacking. Just run till it wears off. Use your shield if you get attacked.
*Let alone the damage dealt from the attack giving the stun.
===========================================================================
--Fire--
Deals normal damage, so it works well on even gremlins and beasts. Take note that it won't impede what the enemies are doing at all.
-What Fire works well on-
Anything that might be hard to hit, such as:
Trojans
Kats
Develites
Greavers
All Gremlins(excluding the T1 versions)
All Wolvers(excluding the T1 versions)
and also Ice (jelly) cubes, because it removes the ice on them. Don't use it on oil jellies, you will heal them.
-What to do if you get put on Fire-
You can't avoid taking damage, so don't bother shielding, it will just slow you down and wear your shield out. Charging is useless also, unless you have a CTR, because your charge will just get removed with the damage bursts. The only way to avoid damage from it is just don't get burned, or use a cure.
Also, one of the loading tips says "...but that doesn't mean you can't keep [fire] from spreading to other monsters," I'm pretty sure that this isn't true, and even if it is, it would probably leave you open trying to give the monster the burn.
===========================================================================
--Freeze--
Start charging up one of your weapons while the enemy is frozen, then unleash it on them before they thaw, this way you can get an easy charge in. Just remember that they won't take any extra damage from the ice if you break it yourself.
-What Freeze works well on-
Anything that might hard to hit, such as:
Wolvers(T3 especially)
Kats
Develites
Greavers(yes, I know that the effect makes it look useless on them, but it still works.)
Silk Wings(because of small heal range, that makes it unable to heal)
It also works on burning oil jellies cause it will put them out, just don't use it on Ice (jelly) Cubes, because it will heal them.
-What to do if you get Frozen-
You will want to guard. If you get hit, even if you're guarding, the ice will break. Also, if your shield is broken, and if you have a sword form the caliber series, try to using the caliber charge, be cause this will push things away all around you. Another method is using a heavy sword, but this only works in front of you. Remember that team mates can thaw you by attacking you.
===========================================================================
--Shock--
Great damaging Undead and Constructs because it deals elemental with each spasm, so you get bigger numbers with each hit. Otherwise, Shock strikes a balance between damaging and making things hold still, so you could call it an all purpose status.
-What Shock works well on-
It works well on virtually any mob, because it can cause damage to other enemies in the same group. Like I said before, it works well for damaging Undead and Constructs. Freeze or Stun usually works better on Gremlins and Beasts, specially if they are alone.
-What to do if you get Shocked-
Try guarding when you get shocked. You'll still be open when you reel over from the shock, but you won't take any damage.
===========================================================================
--Poison--
At first glance, poisoning things seems like it's rather useless, unless your just trying to keep the Jelly King from healing. But if you read the wiki page, you'll find that it says it lowers both defense and offense stats. So, since this is true, you should attack what ever monster has been poisoned, because it won't be able to do much damage to you, and you'll be doing much more to it.
-What Poison works well on-
This really all depends on what your setup is. This is because if you have a final flourish(5* piercing sword), and a full Skolver Coat(normal resist and piercing), a T3 Alpha Wolvers will become easier to kill. However, with the same setup as before, and your up against, say, a T3 Gun Puppy, the Gun Puppy will take a very long time to kill, and during that time, you'll probably get hit, and you'll take a LOT of damage, being that it does elemental, you have no elemental resistance. However, if you have a balanced set of equipment, this shouldn't be such a problem.
Besides weakening your foes, you should poison things that are being healed without killing the healer first. The wiki says a poisoned healer will do damage instead of healing when it gives a heal, but I have yet to test this.
-What to do if you get Poisoned-
The first thing you'll notice is that you won't pick hearts up or use health pills. This doesn't seem like a big problem, but it can be, being that you
take much more damage, so you will need the hearts more.
You'll probably want to run. If you have a gun or a bomb, use that, but don't expect to kill anything.
===========================================================================
--Curse--
This is my personal favorite, especially against a Gremlin Mender. But it's the 2nd rarest status, sleep being the 1st. The only enemy to deal would be Phantoms, and your only two ways to deal it is with the (Gran)Faust and Vials.
-What Curse works well on-
Anything that curses deals shadow damage, so naturally it works well on Slimes and Gremlins. Otherwise, healers and other things that are very active all the time, such as:
Silkwings
Gremlin Menders
Mecha Knights(I love this because they will take extra damage from their malfunction(self shock)
Wolvers(leave them alone, and they kill themselves from barking too much)
Kats(no joke! they take damage from just darting around)
Develites(see Kats for the reason why)
-What to do if you get Cursed-
Typically, just run. In the case that you have more then 2 weapons, use the ones that aren't cursed. Also, if you have all 4 vial slots used, you could use the one that is not cursed. Use a remedy capsule if you own one that hasn't been cursed.
===========================================================================
--Sleep--
This is one of the rarest status effects in the game. There is only one enemy that can give it(Sloom jelly, rare enemy, I think), and only one way knights can give it to monsters(Vials). Couple it with fire and/or poison, to counter the healing from the sleep.
-What Sleep works well on-
It's good against large mobs chasing you, healers and other enemies that can attack you with out having to look at you, such as:
Gremlin Menders
Gremlin Thwackers(T3 only)
Lichen Colonies(Giant included)
Jelly Cubes(T2 and T3, frozen ice cubes included)
Polyps
If possible, Mecha Knights(T3 ones especially), but constructs are the only family with all of it's members immune sleep!
-What to do if you're put to sleep-
Nothing! Really, nothing. This is the only status that may not be cured in any form till it wears off. You'll get healed during your 'little' nap, but your real open. If you're in a party, they could defend you till you wake.
===========================================================================
Here is a list of combinations to try, and ones that don't work well together.
--Status Cookbook--
Sleep + Poison: Helps keep the monster from healing while sleeping. Makes the monster completely inactive for the duration of the sleep.
Sleep + Fire: Doesn't work as well as Sleep + Poison, as the sleep heals faster than the fire can damage, but still keeps the enemy from healing so much.
Sleep + Fire + Poison: This would be a very good combo, but it might be hard to pull off, unless you had a party of 3, and 1 could deal fire, the other, poison, and the last having a sleep vial. Never actually seen it done, but would work well.
Stun + Shock: Gives the targeted enemy a HUGE slowdown, and it deals minor damage also. Note that your target will recover from the stun faster than the shock.
-What is doesn't work-
Fire + Freeze: Won't coexist at all, to my knowledge. Even if it could, the damage from the fire would break the ice.
Curse + Freeze: For the same reason as directly above, if the monster attempts to attack, he might free himself from the freeze by taking damage from the curse.
Shock + Freeze: If you can even put them together, it wouldn't work together for the same reason as above.

--To Do--
Add links to items from the game listed here(this will take a long long time)
Find and fix typos(this will be done over time)
I'm surprised you have not have curse ready.By the way if you don't know,a faust can cause curse to enemys.
Curse is helpful against bosses like JElly King.
Also i dont know whats the name but like a whole group of slimes connect to each other it will create a really OP slime.Curse effects on those slimes are a good idea.
