Diminishing Returns?

I believe I heard this mentioned once or twice before, but is it true that one gains a greater amount of defense from the first equipped item then the second equipped item's same bonuses?

I couldn't think of a great way to phrase that, but for example:

I equip a Vog Cub Cap and gain normal and elemental defense and fire resistance, my defenses and resistances raise to a certain point.

After that I equip Vog Cub Coat and it gives the appearance that my defenses and resistances doubled in those areas.

But I've heard people say that adding more armor/resistance on top of what you already have doesn't increase it by as much as it was initially increased by.

Is this true?

If so, would that make equipping differing armor types (Divine Veil + Skolver Coat) be more overall beneficial in your opinion?

It hasn't been proven yet,

It hasn't been proven yet, but someone (I forgot their name) did study it to some extent.

It may well not be anywhere

It may well not be anywhere near as simple as "double the armor, double the protection" or "diminishing returns". Remember, armor amounts have to deal with different star levels on different strata. That is, it needs to deal with 5* armor on depth 1 and 1* armor on depth 20, and it needs to do it in a way that 'makes sense". Protection may not be a percentage of damage done (e.g. damage reduced by 27%) and it may not be absolute (e.g. damage reduced by 2.7 bars).

For weapons, it has been measured that, say, a 2* sword does less damage in T1, but it also does less damage in T3. Likewise, it may well be that if you only have a little protection from a certain kind of damage that doubling the amount of armor more than doubles your protection, but after a certain point, more armor gives you very little extra protection, and it may all depend on what level you are on. Or, it may be if you have only a small amount of protection and get hit hard, you get effectively zero defense, much like a leather jacket won't protect you from a bazooka. Or, it may be some other system.

I don't understand your

I don't understand your comment, wrs1864. I'm talking about stacked defenses/resistances vs. varying defenses/resistances, how does what tier/strata I'm on factor into this?

why, the same way a proto

why, the same way a proto sword in the 1st stratum deals more damage than an Argent Peace maker in the first stratum. Damage from weapons changes from stratum to stratum, and apparently so does armor defense. The whole system seems really complicated and quite frankly i'm not sure what OOO and sega were thinking.
