Choosing 2 weapons against Vanaduke?

I have been wondering if it is possible to solo vanaduke provided no extra weapon slots are used.
Which 2 weapons will you choose to run FSC?
Please make suggestions and provide reasons for your choice.
I really need comments on soloing Vanaduke without buying boosts. Thanks.

Shivermist, Polaris. Both

Shivermist, Polaris.

Both amazing during the run, in the boss fight freeze once -> shoot once -> freeze once -> shoot once etc so he never attacks. Some people might say argent peacemaker, but I feel polaris is better during the rest of the run, and it's definitely not *bad* for vanaduke.

Polaris > AP.

Also, I'd say that Polaris + Barbarous Thorn Blade would be your optimal 2-weapon set.

@Dingle

I've accrued over 100 seals from vana since picking up my Polaris, and given that I never lose aggro from Vanaduke from start to finish of the fight, I'd say Polaris has higher DPS. Better utility too.

The only thing AP has on it is shooting through barriers.

(Guess what? Barbarous Thorn Blade's charge attack can hit through barriers as well)

@Boolet This is for soloing,

@Boolet

This is for soloing, so keeping aggro was never an issue. Maintaining the crowd control that other players who don't have aggro would normally do is the issue, hence shivermist.

I will agree that Polaris > AP. Roughly double damage once you add in shock, even to vanaduke, and you don't have to aim so much, shots connect even if they hit the center wave of fireballs. Less wasted shots = even better dps, especially as the AP has to have twice as much accuracy already.

@Dingle Good luck soloing to

@Dingle

Good luck soloing to vanaduke using only polaris + shiver, those trojans are going to be a real pain without a sword.

I was mainly referring to the fact that due to my ability to maintain aggro using polaris with 3 people in the party using AP, that I must therefore inflict higher DPS than any of my teammates.

Meaning that Polaris inflicts higher DPS to vanaduke than AP. And AP is largely useless before Vana. Making AP useless.

The one thing AP has that Polaris doesn't, Barbarous Thorn Blade has. And is the ideal weapon to kill trojans. Nothing does it better.

Trojans just take longer to

Trojans just take longer to kill with polaris than a sword, but they're still not much of a hassle if you know how to fight them solo (on that note, a number of my friends don't seem to know and just circle the trojan forever...)

The important thing for a 2 weapon vanaduke run is being able to control vanaduke when you get to him, if you can't keep him from attacking -and- deal damage, you might be screwed over very quickly.

And yes, polaris definitely has higher dps than AP against everything except gremlins, as long as it's used correctly. Not that you have to try hard against vanaduke.

So, uh, this will probably make me look bad, but... What's "aggro"?

"Aggro" refers to who a

"Aggro" refers to who a monster is targeting; a player has aggro from a monster if the monster is attempting to attack that player.

It matters in most MMOs, where frequently there's a good reason for a specific player to not be targeted by anything, or for all enemies to be following one player.

In firestorm citadel, controlling Vanaduke's aggro during the bossfight can seriously reduce the amount of times he will attack, as he'll only attack if the player with aggro is in his line of sight; either by keeping him from turning or constantly making him change his aggro you can essentially prevent him from attacking. A lot of enemies in the game are similar, though notably the jelly king and roarmulus twins don't seem to care about aggro.

Snarbolax is the first time aggro is really important; while he always throws attacks towards the center, he'll only come into range to be stunned if you attack him to get aggro. So, you may have already used aggro without knowing what the word means.

Ah.
Trojans and Vanaduke seem to love targeting me.
With Vanaduke (who I have yet to beat), I just run circles around him while my team does stuff to him. Once he gets his fireballs, though, I can't do that.

This is what i

This is what i used:

Barbarous thorn blade and Silversix/AP

but now im experimenting at the moment and am going with

Barbarous thorn blade and Polaris

Trust me barbarous is just amazing there. The whole charge can go through the force feilds and has good knock back on the first hit and the charge. I've run vanaduke with it and unless you have a Divine Avenger you willbe using a gun 90% of the time. In the levels to vanaduke I use barbarous and a gun equally.

Same here wandering what is best..

My plan was to bring a D.avenger and Shivermist for the Run
Any suggestion to it? How will it go?

@Cheneus

You will need a gun to succeed against Vanaduke himself -- shiverlocking doesn't work like it used to.

Can someone get the numbers for damage of polaris vs. AP? I know AP does 76 per shot, how about polaris?

Guhnom
NOOOOOOO

Shivermist + Blitz

Shiver to freeze him + minions in place
Blitz for amazing, beautiful damage.

WARNING!

I don't know if you guys have fought VD since the newest patch, but he now has two Slag Guards that charge at you in his last stage.

This might just be me but it seems like SMB and the Blitz Needle got ruled out if you're gonna go solo. It's still actually pretty difficult to use the SMB and Blitz even if you are in a full party. You don't want to be standing in one area for more than a few seconds because those Slag Guards are gonna skewer you. If I were you, I would definitely bring an AP for decent mobility while still dealing decent damage.

I don't have a level 10 polaris to compare but keep in mind, you can unload 1.5 alchemer or polaris clips in the time it takes to unload an AP clip.

I finally got my polaris to

I finally got my polaris to heat 10. The expanded bullet does 93 and shock status ticks away at 21. I'm not sure how to factor in the shock damage but the bullets alone should equal roughly 93*4.5=418.5 compared to the AP 76*6=456. The expanded bullets were also dealing something like 193 against the slag walkers which should completely outdo the AP.

I have also noticed that either the shock or the explosions causes him to interrupt his charge attack. Interpret the numbers how you like but the polaris is definitely a top gun to use for vanaduke and FSC.

Without any boosts my AP does 100-123 damage per shot.

I don't have a Polaris so I

I don't have a Polaris so I can't comment on that.

Blitz needle could be more useful in a party of 4 because you can find more openings than soloing Vanaduke now, compare to AP. I usually take AP when I solo or duo.

The AP does exactly 76 per

The AP does exactly 76 per shot against vanaduke. Nor should there be a range of damage against him. Don't try to trash talk the polaris by misinforming people about the AP. You can see it in every youtube video of people using APs; every one of them.

Here are a few youtube videos; all 76:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DJP3hepM-4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ohgwPASxsU&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt0YfnU6isE&feature=related

Again, we are talking specifically about vanaduke. Most guns are unpredictably nerfed against him. Unless someone has used the gun on him, one cannot just guess if a gun would be good against him. The alchemers are pretty much useless against him dps wise. A hail driver deals 78 per shot; a thaw break if you ever find yourself waiting for it deals a bit over 200. A callahan deals 128 per shot, maybe 130 if I ever bother to get the last tick of heat to reach heat 10. The only good guns against him that I know about are the AP, sentenza, polaris, and possibly blitz needle which seems to deal 51 per shot however, I'm not sure how long it takes to fire all of its shots compared to other guns.

Fire rate is something most people seem to forget about when comparing dps. It takes a long time to unload all of the light bullets of the AP/sentenza/blitz. In 18 seconds, I can fire about 20 alchemer shots, 42 AP shots, 30 polaris shots, or 16 callahan shots.

Now that I think about it,

Now that I think about it, I'm curious what you could do with a catalyzer. Just how man charged shots could you get around him and how much would it hit for?

Bladestorm5
Legacy Username
Catalyzer would be difficult

Catalyzer would be difficult since Vanaduke is a large target, so the charged shots would take a long time to travel around him, and add the orbit fire balls and it gets that much harder. It would be alright for first round. I don't know if it'd be worth bringing to try, but it would be interesting to see the results.

On the subject of Catalyzers.

Bladestorm5: The size of the target does not matter, if a catalyzer charge is orbiting a mob, the next catalyzer shot to hit the mob detonates all existing charges. Go test it on a lumber or the Royal Jelly.

The main issue the catalyzer has is that you simply will not hit him through the fireballs on stages 3 and 5.

I would personally bring a shivermist (whenever I get around to upgrading my atomizer) and a Blitz.
