I had thought about it the other day, and a few friends liked the idea.
I know the whole idea with the Spiral Knights and their guns are that they are small side arms and that is why something like the Magnus knocks them on their ass, but if the gun made you stand still and gave you a decent amount of knockback (as in, you slide a bit), wouldn't that make the logic part of it make sense?
Now I know the Autogun series kinda already has bullet-spraying, but it sprays like... Well, a machine gun/machine pistol. But this thing would maybe have a more settled spray. Not to mention, the pellets would launch all at once. Maybe to make it less viable to catch dodgy things in the spray (being that they fire all at once) give it a slightly tighter cone of spread?
I'd imagine this gun would do normal or piercing, but maybe a chance to stun would work, too.
Anyway, throw out opinions and ideas. Chances are whatever comes up in this thread, no matter good it may be, will never see the light of day in the game anyway.

That is what I was thinking, Raton. Make it pump-action, but without too much reload. That way the fire system goes shot (with standing still and knockback on the shooter), pump (maybe allow slow movement?), repeat.
It should be slow, to balance the damage output, but not too slow to make it not worth using.
Other than Stun, I don't think it should have a status variant - might be overpowered. But it would depends on what OOO does with it.
Anyway, that is as far as the thread got there. So how about some brain-stormin'?

I think one thing that could make this unique is the movement dynamic. I was thinking the "shotgun" could allow the user to run at full or near-full speed at all times (shooting, charging, reloading), but have an obscene pump-action reload time between small clip sizes. Possibly even just one burst. If the shotgun had a single burst but allowed full motion in all modes, it could be a hit-and-run type of weapon for precision attacks or breaking up mobs. A shotgun user would have to run up to their targets to get in range, and then run back out or past while reloading.
Slowing down a shotgun user at close-range, as is traditional for Handguns, would kill any utility the weapon may have. As a Handgun, it is slower and less powerful compared to Swords. As a shotgun, it is assumed to lose the range benefits of other Handguns.
