What's a good gun to compliment the Magnus line?

So I've been running my Knight as a gun-toothin' desperado. I picked up a Magnus and got it upgraded to a Mega Magnus and I'm fairly satisfied with it. Problem is that there are some things that it just won't blast to smithereens such as those jellies. I currently run around with an Autogun as a backup gun for those (as well as clearing lots of bushes/blocks/gathering minerals real fast!) but it is losing it's edge.

So I'm wondering: if you're stuck to two guns, and one is a Magnus, what other gun would you pick?

If you want a gun for Jellies

If you want a gun for Jellies then the Biohazard path for the Catalyzer or a Shadowtech Alchemer is what you want to look at. If you want more power against Constructs then you'll want either the Polaris path for the Pulsar or one of the other Alchemers (Firo, Cryo, Volt)

If you want a Normal damage gun then you have the choice of the alternate paths for the Pulsar and Catalyzer or the Blaster line.

I'd assume you could use an Autogun against most of the bigger, slower constructs so maybe you want to focus on Jellies and go with a Shadow damage weapon?

Guns rely extensively on

Guns rely extensively on damage type weaknesses to deal their full damage potential. Since the Magnus lines of guns deal piercing damage, I'd suggest you pick up a Shadow gun (Toxic Catalyzer and its upgrades) or an Elemental gun (Kilowatt Pulsar and its upgrades).

Elemental Alchemers are

Elemental Alchemers are amazingly versatile weapons. They have decent range and speed for sniping; the ricochets on the upgraded versions add AOE for all shots, and a chance for insane spike damage on charge attacks; the Cryo, Firo, and Volt lines all apply a status effect fairly regularly, extending your DPS and crowd control options.

I personally prefer Elemental Alchemers to Shadowtech or Toxic Catalyzer when dealing with hordes of slimes.

I "have" been eyeing a Voltech Alchemer. Shock just seems to be such a nasty status effect....

*Facepalm* You prefer an elemental alchemer over a shadowtech to fight mobs that are WEAK to shadow? Good going, there.

The Kilowatt Pulsar series also inflict shock, by the way, at a very high rate, so please don't get a Voltech just because you want the shock. I'd take the Polaris over any of the 5* Drivers any day. It does way more damage by far, and has way more crowd shaping utility.

Except that to buy a Pulsar

Except that to buy a Pulsar in the first place you need Bark Modules. How am I supposed to get those if I don't make a Voltech Alchemer to take out Constructs?

If I ever decided to be a pure gunslinger, I'd get the Valiance and Callahan and nothing else.. but that's just me.

Gunslingers don't gain any

Gunslingers don't gain any benefit from using normal damage guns. Normal damage guns are meant to cover a long range deficiency that isn't covered by swords or bombs. Gunslingers never have this problem. Secondary attributes such as a status effect, knockback, and ricochet are important because they compensate for the lower damage of guns by providing more strategies against difficult situations.

You DID need bark modules.

You DID need bark modules. But now with the wonders of the unbinding system, you can buy a Pulsar straight off the AH. :)
