Shock vs Other Status Effects

Hello all,

I'm a newb at SK (2* and 3* gear), and I was wondering about the shock status.

How does shock damage over time and crowd control compare to other statuses like freeze and fire?

Is shock damage and action interruption, etc. random? Or is it at evenly spaced intervals?

And finally, your opinions: Is shock worth it as a status effect in comparison to its alternatives?

Thanks in advance! :)

Fire deals more damage over

Fire deals more damage over time than shock, and the damage is the same across all monster types.

Shock deals elemental damage; it's only useful for the shock spasms on beasts and gremlins. Not entirely certain, but I believe shock damage is -always- lower than fire damage, or at least triggers less often to make it so. On constructs and undead, it's high enough to be a real help.

Freeze is similar and different to the spasms shock causes. Both prevent movement; shock spasms can also prevent attacks, but don't seem to be consistent about it. Monsters will stay frozen until attacked or freeze runs out; shock spasms only last a half second or so.

Also of note, the spasms caused by shock and freezing both prevent knockback from attacks, though freeze only prevents the knockback of the first attacl that his the target. This leads both to conflict with high knockback weapons, which can be a good thing (Leviathan, DA) or can make things unpredictable (eg Polaris will occasionally cause a shock spasm instead of knockback on hit). Shock isn't dependable for causing this effect.

Shock spasms are roughly every 3 seconds until the status wears off, and only prevent movement and attacks during a short half second period; this isn't consistent either, as I already mentioned.

Overall, I think shock's a fair middleground for fire and freeze. It deals more damage than freeze's none, and has more of a chance of stopping a monster from attacking you than fire's slight chance to kill it first. It's a decent choice.

slight correction

Shock damage is lower than fire ticks, but it is more frequent (as in the spasms are at quicker intervals)

My Opinion

In my opinion, shock is overall better than fire and freeze. I prefer shock because it is in the middle damage and crowd control. Also, imo, shock is better because it can be used in combination with others' fire and freeze (Freeze cancels fire and fire cancels freeze).

I got the shock bomb from the

I got the shock bomb from the Roarmulus Twins tokens the other day, and I'm loving it. Most monsters, if they are in the middle of it when it goes off, are still there when the shock thing goes away. It is definitely amazing, better than fire imo.

Thanks for your replies guys

Thanks for your replies guys :)

I also wanted to ask..
Is the collateral damage from shock a factor? Does it actually make a difference? What about transferring the status?

@Murukamag: I also like shock for the same reason, but I have heard others say that shock is not overall as useful as either freeze or fire, because it doesn't do very well at either Crowd Control or Damage.

@Soaring but I have heard

@Soaring
but I have heard others say that shock is not overall as useful

What others say is usually not worth hearing - in MMO and real life alike :-D

Note that there are threads in this forum about how shock is overpowered but I haven't seen a single thread about freeze or fire being overpowered. Go figured ;-)
